Upon first looking at the eBay listing for this 1974 Pontiac Firebird Formula 455, I thought this was going to be a total basketcase. It’s close, but I think it’s worth bringing back even in its rough condition. The car retains its original, numbers-matching motor, which still runs and is attached to a chassis that is said to be rot-free. However, as you can see in the photos (and the seller openly acknowledges), the quarter panels are in rough shape and will require some bodywork to set right (along with needing a full interior). While not as desirable as a Super Duty, I still feel like this is a worthy candidate for restoration if the price stays low enough. What do you think?
My second car was a 74 Esprit, no 455 of course. Also minus those idiotic valet windows! Who would do that?

The windshield, the rear quarters…once rust is established here they are impossible to stop. And once you remove them, you would find even more. It would best to find a good rear section and put the front sheet metal and engine into it.

I absolutely HATE the Windows!!!! With that said, being a rust belt do it yourself kind of guy, and an industrial painter full time, I know I could make this a nice car that would hold up for many years even with the ugly Ass Windows, quarters and rust issues with this car. I would save it. Not my favorite year either honestly, but original drive train makes it a no Brainer. Look at the prices of these second gen birds. Nice ones are getting expensive.
