1975 AMC Pacer: No Reserve

amcpacer

When I first spotted this ad, I thought for sure it would be a high-dollar car, fresh off an overdone restoration. Well, I was wrong on both counts: this 1975 AMC Pacer here on eBay is looking like a good deal, with no reserve and the bidding just a tick over $1,000. If the pictures are accurate, it appears to be a nice survivor-grade driver with decent paint and some well-suited aftermarket wheels. It’s a manual transmission, too, which is a major plus for the row-your-own crowd. With under 120,000 original miles and well-optioned with factory A/C (not working, currently), this could be an excellent hobby car for the money. The seller has some questionable feedback on eBay, so be sure to schedule an in-person inspection if this Pacer catches your eye.

Wow super clean. I like it a lot! And no reserve!

If it has AC, it doesn’t work well, even if it does. These are rolling greenhouses. Cheech and Chong should have used one as a “grow house” in one of their movies.

A big plus is that back seat passengers can sunbathe without going to the beach.

A fishbowl without air conditioning, with a black vinyl interior? Yikes.

For a undesirable car like this it’s in darn nice shape and the test drive seems to show it’s road worthy. As a cheap daily driver with no reserve not a bad deal IMO.

Undesirable? I think not. Yes, they looked weird and ungainly to me back in the day — as did the Gremlin — but the quirky styling has grown on me. An ugly puppy, but not without charm!

It would be fun to have as soon as the a/c is replaced, assuming all the mechanical bits are as good as they seem. You’d get attention! I admit my first thoughts tend toward replacing the lump under the hood with a sbc but hey, that’s just me.

Pacer styling grows on people like warts. The best part of this car is the I-6. AMC sixes tend to be as durable as anvils.

First time I’ve ever remotely considered one of these- something about the combination of color / roof rack / tires and wheels. Good thing there’s no room in my garage.

It does have a/c, just missing components , that is rare for a pacer.

Even fully functioning AC wasn’t enough when new. With all that glass, they were very hot on a sunny day, even in upstate NY.

Why go the SBC route? Go for an AMC 401 in the engine bay!
