1976 AMC Gremlin: Oddly Collectible

1976 AMC Gremlin

Some cars are desirable because of their performance, others because of who built them, and then there are those cars that people want because they have a connection to them. Maybe it was the family wagon and all the good times you had in it as a kid or perhaps it was your first car? What ever the reason, there are cars out there that aren’t exactly collectible, yet people buy them and cherish them. When this AMC Gremlin was new, it was considered to be basic and cheap transportation. It wasn’t a car you parked in a climate controlled garage and only took out on nice days. It was a car you hauled all your buddies to school in, a car you flogged the throttle at every light, and at the end of the day you parked it outside and didn’t give it another thought. As a result of their rough lives, it is getting harder and harder to find solid and complete examples. This ’76 Gremlin isn’t in perfect shape, but it looks fairly straight and the seller claims it only has 87k miles on it. This piece of nostalgia can be found here on craigslist in Las Vegas, Nevada with a $3,500 asking price. So do you have a strong enough connection to the Gremlin to make space for this one in your garage? Special thanks to Robert R for the tip!

I like Gremlins but this is a lot of bucks for this car. A clean X with a V8 might be worth $3500. But not this one.

My first car was a 1971 Gremlin. Performed my first clutch replacement on that car. Happy memories. (That’s me on the right in the very cool striped pants.)

John that’s a cool pic, brings back memories and those metal corn bins bring back other memories as I grew up in the corn belt Midwest. Love the cooler on the roof. Good old days.

Without more info there’s no way he will get that kind of money for a 6 banger Gremlin. Even if it runs / stops and shifts it’s a $1500 car to me.

not with just 4 photos, wide tires on the back, missing the cool gremlin gas cap, no information on p/s, p/b, a/c. i drove one for a while with 232/auto, no other options and it would get you where you needed to go. nothing broke but not fun or good in the snow. seller is taking offers. interesting find
