No Reserve Shaggin Wagon: 1976 Ford Custom Van

There are already 50 bids for this 1976 Ford E-Series van that has been converted into an era-correct shaggin’ wagon, complete with lack of side windows. I’m not sure that’s a selling point, but the seller does explicitly point out in the very brief listing that it has “…no side windows.” So, if you’re into a van that affords the maximum in privacy, check it out here on eBay where bidding is just under $5K.

The Econoline is in very nice shape, with many of the classic vanning details nicely integrated. By that I mean the turbine-style wheels, fender flares, window louvers, and side steps. The forest green paint is one of the more subdues colors we’ve seen on a van meant for murals, but it’s still a good look and appears to be nicely preserved. You might miss the roof rack if you look too quickly.

The inside is exactly as you’d expect for a van of this period and denomination, with couches and lots of paneling. This looks like any 1970s living room, just installed in the back of an E-Series. No word on whether there’s any entertainment back here beyond what you can carry in your pockets (or a flask), but you won’t have prying eyes affecting your better judgement. It’s fully carpeted, too.

The driver’s cabin is in nice shape, with an unmarked dash and plenty of cupholders. Impressively, the wood paneling continues all the way up to the door panels, and the buckets look like they’ve been pulled from a later Ford product. Overall, this Econoline presents as one of the rare 70s-style vans that don’t need to be gutted but can simply be used as-is – unless you need to cut in some windows…

Short non descriptive description and zero feed back–smells fishy.

Love old vans and green. But the teal upholstery ruins the look. Really clashes with the great green dash. Time for a dye job.

Only second year of that body style by Ford!!! They were great trucks!! Had an 82 like that with the 300 six cylinder and three speed on the column!! It was so smooth on the road you thought you were driving on a fluffy white cloud!! Wish I still had it!!!

All these vans were pretty nice cruisers, but I think Ford was the best, only because these were basically pickups underneath, and Ford, I feel made the best. Not the best to work on, which isn’t often, they really were bullet proof. Nice truck.

The long nose 1975 E series got that long nose from ford using the pickup truck frame and their van was no longer a unibody. Fords were heavier than dodges but were the van for towing.

I am restoring a 1990 short ford right now. I prefer EFI and the 1990 has that. We saved this van from the crusher in Alamogordo NM. Mechanical is done working on the interior now.

Not normally a fan of running boards, but those wooden ones are very sharp…especially the wee section behind the rear wheels.
