1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass: Touch of Rust

right front

There’s nothing special about a Cutlass this new – the last year of the fourth generation. At least it was still rear wheel drive. This barn find on listed here on craigslist certainly looks pretty in red, or at least the pictures do. Is that rust I see in all the usual places? It is from the Detroit area, know for its rust. The inside looks nice, even with the cracked dash. Gotta love those seventies patterns! There’s no word on what engine it has though. It does need a new radiator, but the price could be reasonable at $2,400. It makes me wonder though why he doesn’t just replace it after doing the gas tank and other work. Perhaps if the rust isn’t too bad, this could be a classy driver one could get a few more years out of. Well, if you aren’t in the rust belt that is…

Ok, so its a 77 and not a 76, but am I the only 90’s kid with the lyrics to Sir Mix A Lot’s “My Hoopty” looping through my head right now?

Kewl, I wonder if someone could make me a pair of pants with a remnant of the upholstery?

I owned a 76 for a while bought it used drove it for a few years, and sold it, but it had the same crack in the dash. I liked the car, but man those doors were heavy, replaced the door hinges pins twice I think.

I’ve had a few of this generation cutlasses. Even an emerald green and white 75 442 with Hurst t-tops. Good riding comfortable cars. Rust claimed most of them around the erie area. (Most other areas too I’m sure) Would like to have bother one some day.
