1977 Porsche 930 Turbo: Mega Project

911turboproject

There are some cars you just never see as projects. The first-generation 911 (930) Turbo is one such classic, but the boys at Beverly Hills Car Club have managed to scare up a basket case example of this valuable P-car. Listed on eBay with bidding approaching $20K and the reserve unmet, this project-grade 911 is both exciting and terrifying, as these cars are anything but cheap to maintain, even in top condition. However, the value of these monstrous 930 Turbos has risen rapidly over the last few years and this car deserves to be saved. Throw in the fact that it was originally special-ordered in silver metallic paint, and you can bet your bottom dollar this one will be brought back to as-new condition.

One of my ex-bosses took me for a ride in one of these on Forest lane in Dallas, she got it into third gear about the time I wet my pants.

Ouch! This poor Turbo sure was hit hard by a nasty boy-racer stick. This kind of outcome makes me wonder what a guy who gives a special car a bad flat-black paint job thinks after the paint is dry…….. “I know! White seats! Yep, that’s the ticket. OK, they’re cracked and dirty, but they’re white and the car is flat black. Cooool!”

I hope bidders are real careful with this one because a Turbo can get real expensive if the works have been messed with or beat up. And if this really is a 1977 MY car I hope they check out the claim that the car has a 3.3 engine, which didn’t arrive until the 1978 MY. Before they had 3.0 engines.

I caution anyone from buying anything from this seller. I’ve been to this location, it’s nowhere near BH and after viewing the large collection of crap they have for sale, you’ll be running for the shower when you get home. They’re a shady outfit to say the least and the sales staff should be working at Ikea, they have no knowledge whatsoever of classic cars.

I checked out the BHCC website, You would think they would have a better photographer. They have a ’82 308 GTSI & the paint looked runny but its the shop lights.

I had the pleasure of driving one of these back in the early 80’s, my first time driving it , getting on the highway and I punched it and was like, this is a dog BUT then the turbo kicked in and about $h!+ myself!!! The guy who I worked was a big car guy I would have to take it out to fill it up or go down and clean up the boat (sail boat, or the 30 ft. twin Super Bee power boat) from the previous nights escapades. Had 5 mercs of different vintages and an old Rolls Silver Ghost that was a blast.

Oh well to be young again….
