1986 Buick Grand National With 26k Miles!

The Regal-based Buick Grand Nationals of 1982-87 saw total production of 30,000 units and are sought after today by collectors. In order to get premium prices, most sellers place ads that have plenty of details and several good photos. Unfortunately, the seller of this 1986 Grand National skipped all of that and only tells us it has 26,000 miles because it was wrecked 32 years ago. Considering what Grand Nationals can go for, the seller’s price is low – but the extent of the work that will have to be done is unknown. This car is located in Louisville, Kentucky, and available here on Facebook Marketplace for $10,000.

Except for its final model year, the Buick Regal Grand National was a low-production muscle car (by 1980s standards). By the time the GN got to 1986 when it saw 7,900 units built, the car was available in black on black and had a turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 with sequential fuel injection, intercooler, and an automatic transmission. The Buick was rated at a minimum of 200 horsepower at 4400 rpm and 300 foot/pounds of torque. These cars could easily break 16 seconds in the quarter-mile.

This ’86 Grand National comes with documentation that says it has 26,665 miles on the odometer. When it was just two years old in 1988, we’re told the automobile was involved in a non-reported fender bender that did quite a job on the front sheet metal (errant teenager perhaps?). It comes with a factory sunroof and the seller says it’s the second rarest Grand National made but does not indicate why this is the case. Besides repairing the front-end damage, we’re told it will need a complete restoration, but no photos are provided that helps interested parties to gauge the extent of the work that awaits the buyer. BTW, the last photo here is an example of what the car may have looked like in better days.

Even if the the mileage is correct, which isn’t proven by a picture of either the speedometer or title, the accident damage negates any advantage any perceived increase in value. Enthusiasts would be better off buying the best possible example they can afford. The way this ad is written the seller of this car comes across as scammer, attempting to sell it to another scammer.

Given the lack of pictures, anyone who is thinking of buying this car would be well advised to go see it in person BEFORE buying it. Then they can see if anything can be done to get it back on the road.

The low mileage is a plus but no indication that it’s running or extent of damage.
Priced too high for what’s shown. Can’t see interior, or paint from the dust.
If anyone is interested, I have most of the parts needed from a 86 Ttype

“the seller says it’s the second rarest Grand National made but does not indicate why this is the case.”
Because only one other owner would ask $10,000 for one in this condition.

Drivers side frame horn is toast. Can it be fixed? Sure but how far back does the damage go. If it was an easy fix the car would have been fixed many years ago.
