1986 Jaguar XJ6: No Mice!

Dusty Jaguar XJ6

Now that’s an impressive amount of dust (at least I hope it’s dust). This 1986 Jaguar XJ6 here on craigslist in Manhattan, Kansas is likely useless as a car but would make a compelling art exhibit for any aspiring students in the area. Frankly, the $1,000 asking price is extremely ambitious given these cars aren’t worth much in good condition, much less one that looks like it’s been parked in a barn for the last 25 years. Surprisingly, the interior doesn’t appear half-bad, so perhaps the seller’s claims are true that it hasn’t been ravaged by mice or moisture. As an ex-Texas car, there’s even a sporting chance the rust-free condition mentioned in the ad is close to being accurate. If this were a more desirable car, I’m certain the auction house’s mouth would be salivating as the amount of dust correlates to a higher sale price at most big money events. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Robert R for this dusty find!

Just a guess, but I’m thinking that the buyer would have to completely dismantle the car to get rid of the dust buildup in every nook, cranny, space and duct before deciding what to do with it. The photos grab the eye, but the seller/flipper could perhaps justify the price if they had hosed it off….

XJs in good condition are wonderful to drive, comfortable and, at least to me, drop-dead gorgeous. If it’s not all corrosion, iron oxide and whatever the industrial waste that’s covering it might be (a possibility, if a slight one), it could be a very nice ride. Well, once the title issue was squared away.

As it is, I wouldn’t go to the next town to check it out, much less Kansas.

This ad has all the classic lines.
    – x number of miles, which I’m told is original.
    – It’s not all rusted out. (emphasis on all, just partially rusted out)
    – ran when parked.
    – no title.

    That’s a big fat pass.

How come nothing else in the garage is coated with that much dust? Note the tires inside the wheel well are also coated. Me thinks the owner sprayed it down with a shop vac in reverse to take advantage of the current barn find craze.

I think I’ll pass on this one and find another to live out my equalizer fantasies

Looks like sawdust to me. Could occur naturally in a busy woodworking shop. The car may not be nearly as bad as it looks.

My shooting club might be interested in this. Perhaps we could load some nitro in it, and make it an exploding target.

Saw an XJS with V-12 in a local Pick and Pay yard just 2 weeks ago. Not much damage at all to the body, just some minor dents to rear quarter that may have been done by the loader while moving it into the yard.

agree with Randys, why is the engine compartment covered just as bad as the exterior? something sounds fishy to me.
