2-Door Survivor: 1967 Pontiac Catalina

p4

Many times we see comments along the lines of “if only this find were a 2-door.” Well, this one is, and boy, are those doors long! This 1967 Catalina was the seller’s first car, and they have owned it since 1983, during which time the car hasn’t seen a winter. The ad states that he cannot give the car the time it deserves, so it’s time to sell it. There is some rust in the rear quarters and some oxidation on some of the upper surfaces, but overall the car looks to be a relatively solid survivor. It looks like the front seat has been reupholstered, but I’m guessing the rear is original; I wonder if the upholstery is available? It’s located in Farmington, Minnesota and is available here on eBay for a buy-it-now price of $5,500. I like the semi-fastback look of this long coupe, and with a 400 V8 it should have some go to match the show. I would try to find some Pontiac rally wheels for it and enjoy the drive! Does having only two doors matter to you?

Hard for me to trust these northern cars to not have lots of hidden rust

I’d find some 428 badges for the front fenders and some Pontiac 2+2 emblems for the rest of the car and turn it into a ’67 2+2 clone – it’d be the perfect candidate. Maybe even slap a tri-power on that 400, it could handle it

I remember (not criticising this fella) that better cars could be had for 500! I once got a car from Bethels goat farm out of San Jose that they got from a Police yard for buttons – 68 GP – damn time gets away!

My 1st full sized car was a ’65 Grand Prix, as I liked the body lines, back in the day when you could order it ’bout any way one could want it, ‘n paid $5600. w/options; payments were $127. a month for 3-yrs. I didn’t like bucket seats, so ordered it with a front bench seat, which came with the Brougham interior in midnight black, ‘n a sound system with reverb. Then a 2+2 dash to get all the gauges, and the Super Duty 2+2 option with the 421/376hp Tri-Power, ‘n SD long headers, rims were the 8-lug alum.. For a big car It went like hell-fire. Traded it in, in ’69 for a GTO ‘vert after I’d gotten married.. I often wonder what ever happened to it, and if it’s still around, ’cause whoever would have it, it’d be a one of a kind muscle car.

This might be a fun car, if the rust issues aren’t serious. My parents owned a 66 Bonneville coupe with a 421 tri-power, auto, factory air, ps and pb. In those days Pontiac ruled the highways. That was the fastest big car I have ever driven.

The performance engine was the 421 which was used in the 2 plus 2 Like Charles’s parents had in the Bonney.

My first car in was a 68 Catalina, it needed a valve job, but it was fairly clean seventy five bucks, it was in eighty one…..
In 67, my father had a 67 2+2, they came with the 428…….

As much as I love an 8 lug or a Rally II I’m kinda digging those spinner wheelcovers.

I would like to have one of these. Great cruiser that isnt seen to often. Would rather have the 428 but thats the hi-perfomance side of me talking. Lol. 1966 was the last year of the 421 and the tri-power. Almost would like to fit a grand prix nose on one of these to have the hide away headlights. Could be a nice cruiser and with ames and year one and a few others a do it yourself kind of guy could make it nice again. At least i could. Thats saying the frame on it isnt rusted. Seems a lot of this generation full size gm’s rusted pretty bad.

I’m looking for my dad’s 67 pontiac, which is this exact color. I’ve searched online for the VIN and have had no luck. Last owner was in Mooresville NC. He sold it, possibly to someone out of state. My Dad was original owner (67-05). He passed away in 06, so it’s very sentimental to me. I’m willing to travel to get it, but I need help. Any ideas???
