26k Mile 1967 Camaro RS/SS

1967 Camaro SS

Oh the story I imagine this ’67 Camaro could tell. As you can see, it’s been in a accident. While we don’t know the specifics of the accident and I’m just speculating here, but I could see this having been wrecked during an impromptu street race gone wrong. Being an RS/SS 350 and 4 speed car, it would have been the perfect stop light dragster for a young driver. Fixing this Camaro back up is going to take a lot of work, but the seller claims the damage isn’t as bad as it looks. If you think you are up to the task of saving it, you can find it here on eBay in Des Moines, Iowa with a bin of $14,500 or best offer.

The asking price sure seems steep for a car that has been wrecked. Granted, it is a desirable combination in a good color. The seller has already checked the engine and states that it is the original, but doesn’t offer any information about it’s current condition. With just 26k miles on the clock, I would hope that the engine isn’t worn out or seized, but it’s been parked for 40 years so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

1967 Camaro SS Interior

While I’m definitely a fan of SS/RS equipped Camaros, I find myself more interested in this project because of the 4 speed than the styling. While I would love to look at it parked in my garage, I would rather be behind the wheel rowing through the gears than just staring at it! Speaking of being behind the wheel, the interior is going to need work to be a comfortable place. The seats will need to be recovered and I’m sure the carpets will need to be replaced as well. I can’t tell if the dash is cracked, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is. It also looks like the shift knob has gone missing.

1967 Camaro RS SS

Being an early SS car, I’m sure someone will save this one, but I have a feeling it’s going to be an expensive project. The accident left the door jam rolled in, so I’m going to guess there is some structural damage that will need to be straightened out. I also see plenty of rust forming that will need to be addressed. And the seller admits the floor pans will need work. It won’t be a simple project, but it does have potential and sure would be a good looking machine once it’s fixed back up! So do you see the potential here?

I’d say never in a million years will he get 14.5 out of this wreck.

This is why kids should not have nice cars given to them.

Low mileage doesn’t mean anything on this car

Why would anyone leave a 67 Camaro RS/SS with only 26K on it just sit if the damage was not all that bad to fix. Someone’s pulling somebody’s leg. But I’m sure some one will pay his asking price then discover their easy fix was the sellers fantasy.

My best guess would be a spoiled child, who just got a new toy, and tossed this in his private rubbish ben.

Knew a guy, back in 62, an only child whose parents catered to his every whim. When he turned 16 the parents bought him a new 1962 Impala SS dual quad 409 4 speed. way to much car for a new, and very arrogant and ignorant driver. 3 days before Christmas he lost control on a curve in the snow and killed the 3 other occupants in the car when he hit a bridge abutment. He never even scraped a knee cap or broke a fingernail, in fact he walked away, and blamed the wreck on the car! Seems like this 26K wonder might be the same sort of deal?

There were guys like that in my high school too. One guy had a 6 pack 340 ‘Cuda,
and a Porsche powered sand rail, that was street legal. He had too much fun.

Cool project. doesn’t look like a 26,000 mile car, could be wrong. Someone out there will see it and buy it, when it gets delivered reality will set in and it’ll end up back on eBay or it’ll be a nice car when all the work is done.

The car is basically a VIN plate donor. If you look at the rear quarter panels there is damage all the way up to the tops of them. It was probably totaled, bought back with intent of “fixing” it and THEN reality set in and it sat.

This guy is on that funny stuff that the cops don’t like.. No way it’s worth that amount of money.. but then again you know what I always say.. “There’s an ASS for every seat..
Best of luck to the seller..

Jim you nailed it, take a close look every one not a straight panel on it, rusted out floors, rusted out roof, ruined interior, and unknown condition of the engine. What a POS, about the only thing solid on this wreck is the vin tag, and that probably has totaled status marked on it. I see $70.00 worth of scrap here. Again if you own a nice one or a restorable one it just went up in value.

With the rust showing underneath, I’d bet it’s 126k. This will need a LOT of work. GLWTS.

I call BS!!! I have a friend who is halfway done ruining one of these. We decoded the cowl tag and learned these cars came with a 10 bolt, not a 12 bolt.So BS! I also recently spotted a ’69 Camaro in Belton,Tx at a place that sells, buys and sells a lot if restorable cars as well as a ton if parts. He had that ’69 priced at $9850.00.It was a Z-11 car. Now here is the kicker.. It had 89k and was last registered in ’72!!! It also had a THICK coat if bondo covering the entire right quarter panel, halfway across the right door, almost the whole roof as well as the trunk lid and taillight panel.A non numbers matching 350.So a spoiled brat drove the hell out of it,wrecked it,then somebody finished off with bondo. But I digress. The RS/SS here.. BS!!!

Hello Ronnie, you from Belton? I have sold a boat load of Euro parts to a shop down there, back in the early 90’s. There was also a guy down there that specialized in old Dodge Power Wagons.

Funny looking hole in the corner of the windshield on the drivers side… Looks like someone cut it and my guess the vin plate is gone with the shift knob!

I just finished appraising a ’67 Camaro convertible that, before they slapped Resale Red on it, had to be in similar (maybe less wrecked) condition, except more Bondo. The owner didn’t do a PPI on it and got taken. Big time. And now he can’t unload it.

PLEASE! Everyone: do a pre-purchase inspection on anything you’re buying, especially if its out of town. And do your homework! Photographs lie!

    You’re right damouse…
I was an insurance appraiser for 17 years and relate to you.. PPI is worth the money, time and investment to avoid losing thousands on a pig in a polk…
