33,187 Mile One-Owner 1960 Rambler Six Super!

This color isn’t actually called pink, it’s Festival Rose. Hmm.. I don’t know if that’s any better for those of you who shy away from pink cars. In any case, this car is worth a look. It’s a 1960 Rambler Six Super and it’s listed on eBay with a current bid of over $4,000 but when you see the photos you’ll know that it’s worth much more than that. It’s located in Clinton, Missouri and is listed by a gentleman who owns a couple of dealerships and has a good sense of humor, not to mention having over 100 old cars in his collection!

Not to mention, he must be tall to have gotten these photos. “Duh, he’s on a ladder, Scotty G.” That could very well be the case but however they got them, they sure show off this great two-tone paint scheme. Believe it or not, this is a one-owner car with a measly 33,187 miles on it! Maybe he was jumping for joy when he took the photos after finding such a hidden treasure. He’s definitely not on a ladder for this shot. The Rambler Six was made from 1956 to 1960 along with the Rambler Eight. The Six and Eight, of course, defined the number of engine cylinders. The Super was the mid-level trim above the Deluxe but below the Custom.

I drove a 1960 Rambler Six about a year ago and it was a chore. The steering wheel was literally right in my lap and it had so much play in it that I could barely keep it on the road. It smelled like gas constantly and it was just overall not a fun experience. This car on the other hand looks like a sweet example, cotton candy sweet with that color. This car comes with the original keys and the original sales slip showing a few options and a sales price of $2,722.15.

Wow. That’s all I can say about the interior on this Rambler. The clear plastic seat covers are still on this thing which is amazing, but everything else looks almost like new inside, too. The original instruction card for starting, shifting, and putting it in park is still there. Speaking of that, here is the seller showing us how that works in a YouTube video. They mention that the car has been repainted at some point and that was a disappointment in an otherwise original car. The trunk looks good but they mention that the original trunk mat has a few cracks in it.

Oddly enough, in all of the photos, and there are a lot of them, there wasn’t one engine photo. I did a screen-grab from the YouTube video that they provided showing this great-looking 196 cubic-inch 127 hp inline-six. This car looks nicer than “average”, which NADA lists as being worth $6,725. Are there any Rambler Six fans out there? What will this car sell for – $7,500? More?

    Now that’s a find, Scotty…

Back in 1970 buddy of mine bought a 1960 Custom, press much equipped the same as the one above. He requested that I give him a list of cars that fitted his needs and budget and this particular car was not on it. In fact, I told him not to buy a Rambler. His was a one-owner example with fairly low miles.

After giving it a tune up and a decent clean, it ran like the proverbial watch, a lot different from my uncle’s ’61, which seemed to lose trim pieces on a regular basis, et al.

While this particular model doesn’t appeal to me (I’d rather have a ’57 Rebel 327/stick), it would be a good collectable for someone wanting something to take the whole family out for a cruise.

When I was an apprentice in 1956 my boss bought one of these, the colour was called nipple pink for the 56 year. His one had a black roof. It cracked the head after 12 months.

I had a ’60 Custom. Great running car. Best feature was the back of the front seat folded all the way back to form a full size sleeping area. When you’re 18…???

My grandfather had one of these. It was light green, no radio, and push button transmission I remember it stalled out a lot when you put it in reverse when cold.

Wow, this car strikes a nerve. My grandfather had a car darn near exactly like this, only a ’61. Same color and everything. Best check those trunnion mounts. This was the car that also had about 40K miles on it, and it looked just like this, on the outside, except the trunnions rusted clear of the unibody, and no one would fix it and he junked the car. I remember how smooth the car ran. Scotty’s description of his experience with one of these rings true. While totally period correct, most , who never drove these, will find out, it ain’t your new Camry. Great find!!!

My dad bought a new 1959 station wagon “rose’ with a black accent “stripe” on the sides (about door handle height) that was shaped much like the gold inserts on 1957 Ford Fairlane 500’s. It was 3 on-the-tree. They were notorious for breaking axles….I think we had two break in the couple of years we owned it. Automatics were “push buttons” – no shifter…

Lovely looking Rambler. I’ve seen pictures of these vintage Ramblers, but I’ve never seen one in person.

My first car was this car in the same color scheme, but not quite so pretty. I got it for $40, as it needed rear wheel bearings and an engine freeze plug. The push-button automatic trans selector on the left side of the dash close to the driver’s window was a challenge at first. I loved the fold down ft seats!

At this moment my 81 Concord DL coupe I bought from USA is on board the container ship with my 72 Buick Skylark coupe on route to Beirut. I was Never an AMC fan but being classic collector I liked have piece of AMC history. Its blue exterior with light blue interior, 2.5 4cylinder, Auto, PS, PB, Factory AC, Factory AM/FM radio, rear defrost. has 50K original miles. I paid 6,500 for it.

My father, who was a army sergeant, bought 3 or 3 used Ramblers from his best friend who would buy anew one. They were all six cylinder, three speed, column shift. The problem I remember happening several times was they would lock in reverse after parking. Had to open the hood and shift the linkage there. Really reliable except.for that, when cross country several times with no problems along the way.
