37 Year Barn Find! 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

Given the popularity today of the Tri-Five Chevies of 1955-57, it might surprise you to learn that the biggest selling models were the 4-door sedans. 56,000 150s, 274,00 210s, and 264,000 Bel Airs were built in 1957 alone. So, there were more of them around when new to survive into the 21st Century. The seller’s ’57 is one of those family models, stored in a barn since 1985, yet not too worse for the wear for the experience. Located in Waynesville, North Carolina, this two-tone survivor is available here on eBay for $14,900 (Buy It Now) or you can click on the Make Offer button.

This ’57 Bel Air looks to be wearing its original two-tone paint, Larkspur Blue over Harbor Blue. For a car that was lost in a barn for more than three decades, it looks surprisingly good. Sure, there’s the patina that many people like, suggesting that a repaint isn’t needed. But three small rust holes ought to be repaired and that part of the paint would have to be matched up as best as possible. The rear bumper must have been more exposed to the elements than the rest of the car and is the rustiest thing here. However, the seller is sending along the correct replacement.

We’re told that the selling party dug this car out of the barn himself, so the photos provided are before and after, with and without years of dirt. The interior looks amazing with nary an issue with the upholstery that meets the eye. The carpeting is old and faded, so that would need to be replaced, but the rest should slide, at least for now. This Chevy has seen fewer than 64,000 miles from new, with it taking 28 years to accomplish that.

The 235 cubic inch inline-6 is said to run great with no funny noises or smoke. It comes with a 3-on-the-tree manual transmission that goes through the gears properly. The seller appears to have installed a new gas tank and we’re told the wheel cylinders are new, but the rest of the brakes need attending and the ancient tires should be jettisoned in favor of some new Goodyears. Take care of these items, and you should have a nice daily driver for Cars & Coffee, showing them that 4-door cars can be cool, too!

The 4 door may have been more popular then, but it’s not popular to me.

Great find. If I were going to own a tri five chevy it would only be the 55, but that is just me. Obviously the 57 was popular since they sold a bajillion of them. Someone will take this car and get it roadworthy again and have a good time with it

$2500.00 maybe up to $4000.00 but they are smoking dope at $15,000.00. There is a 10,000 original mile black car exactly like this that looks brand new (10,000 mile) in my area for sale at less money for three years now.

There’s a good pic of original 6 cylinder, radiator mounted in front of core support,to help people identify 6 and 8 cyl. Factory cars.

Another candidate for a four door to two door conversion. Again, Woody’s Hot Rods has what is needed.

Another car parked & left, till a decision was made to sell. Too bad they think they are setting on a gold mine. At the most 3000.00
