Rare 401 Powered 1974 Jeep Wagoneer Quadra-Trac

Now here’s a find we don’t see too often! This 1974 Jeep Wagoneer isn’t powered by the typical inline-six or even the 360 V8. No, it’s powered by the big AMC 401 cui V8, which the seller notes is the same unit that’s found in the AMX. We will get to that in a moment, but this is a genuine factory optioned 401 truck. It’s currently located in Delta, Colorado, and can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $4,400 with no reserve!

So, yes this V8 is the same engine that could be had in the ’71 to ’74 AMX. I wouldn’t say that it took this 4,370 pound SUV and turned it into a muscle car, but it definitely gave you more towing power and plenty of grunt for comfortable cruising. And I suppose it would be fun to tell people your Jeep has a muscle car engine in it! They really didn’t make many of these trucks, so the seller does their best to prove that this one is a factory-built example. Unfortunately, it’s missing it’s TH400 transmission and Quadra-Trac 4×4 transfer case, which is sure to ding the value. It’s also not running but the engine is said to turn over, so hopefully, with a new transmission and transfer case you’ll be able to get it driving without a full rebuild.

I wouldn’t say the interior is luxurious, but compared to Jeeps’ other spartan offerings, this thing would be downright comfortable. It even came with factory AC, which would be a necessity in this glass box during the warmer months. It’s going to need some restoration work here. The seats all have split seams and there are lots of discolored materials. On the upside, it’s complete, so at least you don’t have to try and track down any major components.

There’s also some rust repair that needs to be done. The seller claims that it isn’t too serious and could be repaired without repainting the entire truck. The rust looks pretty ugly to me but hopefully, that’s truly the case, as this thing has a cool patinaed look. On the other hand, it sure would look great in it’s original color! Can anyone tell what County this truck was used in for inspections?

I wonder what this one will go for.

I found this 1968 model in Mexico with a $9500 USD ask but I don’t know what engine it has. It is just as nice and original on the inside.

That is really nice Miguel! I can’t wait to be relocated finally & be able to meet you my friend. You seem to really be able to find the cool iron too, but with the common friends we have, there are far more reasons than just the cars.
This blue Jeep with green interior more than likely wasn’t blue when new. It looks pretty beat down & rough to me. I think it has value, especially being a 401 engine vehicle, but it will take a LOT to make it a decent driver again. Check it out first & know what you are getting into before you buy.

Firewall looks to be metallic green with white showing through. I’m not sure how it would’ve worn like that in the first place, unless they used a really pale primer and the firewall only ever got overspray in the first place – any Jeep experts know?

I look forward to meeting you if we can get passed what we, and you, are going through.
