When I first spotted this Newport Wagon, the discolored photos kind of turned me off to it, but then I decided to take a closer look and I’m glad that I did! This things is awesome! The seller claims it’s highly original, other than the things they’ve changed over the years. They found it in a chicken coop in Utah, got it running again and then drove it for 5 years. The original engine started to have some issues, so they decided to find a 440 with a 727 transmission for it. They rebuilt both and performed a transplant. The original engine and transmission are included, but will both likely need to be rebuilt if your going to reinstall them. Personally, I’d leave the 440 and just enjoy all that power! You can find this lovely wagon here on eBay in Woods Cross, Utah with a current bid of $10k.
It does have a few issues, like a dent in the right rear quarter, rust in the left front fender and the interior needs some work. The rust is the biggest issue if you ask me. The dent could most likely be removed without repainting it and the interior is something you can work on as you go. They already replaced the carpets, so that job is done, leaving you with upholstery and possibly a new headliner.
This really is one cool wagon! While I prefer originality, I think the 440 is a great upgrade and since the original engine is still with the car, you always have the option to take it back to original. The 440 should be good for about 375 horsepower, so switching back to the original 361 would be a hard choice for me. How about you? Would you leave it as is or would you return this big Mopar back to original?
I love a long-roof! I’d leave the 440 in it. BUT I’d rebuild the other plant for another project :) Not every hot rod needs a 350.

My older sisters’ friend had the 1961 New Yorker Town & Country version of this when it was maybe 7 or 8 years old as her first car; the same color with a gold top in excellent shape. I thought that was the neatest station wagon and I looked it over every time she came over; it had every option. Unfortunately, her brother wrecked it and her dad bought her a 1961 Ford Falcon wagon to replace it; what a change.
Woods Cross is 10 miles from me. I’d rock that the way it is and have a lot of fun.
There are so many classics that look great from the outside but the dash is a major style letdown. This Chrysler really rocks the chrome and classy look that would make you feel good to slide behind the wheel.
Had one in 1968/413 auto. Didn’t like color. Went med blue/ white top. Loved that car.
