440 V8-Powered 1977 Dodge W100 Power Wagon

This truck brings back memories for me having had a red Dodge Ramcharger of this era with similar wheels, but we had a Dachshund at the time and some of you may recognize this pooch as Stanley the shop dog. This 1977 Dodge W100 Power Wagon can be found here on craigslist in the beautiful capital city of Salem, Oregon. The seller is asking $10,500 of best offer for this jacked-up jewel. Thanks to Rocco B. for sending in this tip!

What. A. Truck. Most of us know that Dodge used “D” for two-wheel-drive pickups and “W” for four-wheel-drive pickups, and the “100” portion of W100 would have been denoted this truck as having a half-ton payload. The third-generation Dodge D/W Series pickups were made from 1972 to 1980 and even though this isn’t a graphics-heavy truck from Dodge’s “Adult Toys” series of short box pickups from the late-70s, it has a similar look to it, but there are no graphics.

In case you were wondering about the Stanley the shop dog reference, this truck is being sold by DENWERKS out of Salem, OR, a fairly prominent online seller of all types of nice and unusual vehicles. I would probably do what no other living human would do to this truck: get smaller wheels and drop it down a few inches. I know, sacralidge!

Overall, this truck looks clean and tight but the seller does say that there is a little rust on the bottom of the left fender. It was owned by two brothers and has mostly been stored over the last decade. The interior could use some sprucing up as you can see but half the fun with a truck like this is personalizing it to your own taste.

This isn’t the original 360 V8, it’s a 440! We don’t know too much about it as far as the year, horsepower, etc., but I believe the 440 available at this time would have had 220 horsepower. This one needs some maintenance due to sitting for a few years. Most Barn Finds readers would have this one purring like a kitten and/or roaring like a man-eating lion in no time. How would you restore this Power Wagon?

I can’t let a truck like this go by, without exclaming what stout units they really were. Some may remember, the farm I lived on in N.Wis. had a similar vintage truck, I think the guys dad bought it new, never left the farm, just like the guy. To say it was in deplorable condition, would be a compliment. It was this color, what was left of the color, no floor in the box, no drivers side floor, door wouldn’t close, probably a 40 year old oil filter, no back brakes, but even at -10, it, and the old Allis tractor, were the only things that started. Cool find, just better plan your travel around gas stops.

Make sure that you get a six pack of special root beer included, but you won’t know which bottle Stanley took a swig out of.

The best looking front end on a pickup ever. Sure they were crude, but who doesn’t like these?

This here brings back tons of fond memories… My sister used to own one if these which she purchased new… Power Wagon was the PERFECT name for it… Black with gold pinstripes, Wooden railings with a 360 4 spd… She used to race it at South Mountain back in the day… Won quite a few trophies doing so… Yeah she could drive that beast like she owned it lol! Those were the days… I loved that truck!

Use to have a good friend that had a 79 power wagon with the factory 440 last year you could get the 440 in a 1/2 ton. great truck. Was like new but modified with lift kit big tires ect. the way we did them in the 70s and 80s. He had it for about 20 years and then sold it way to cheap because his son, who he was going to give it to, was not into MOPARS, I’m not either but would have made an exception for this truck, wish he had let me know I would have surely given him what he sold it for and been proud to have it.

Best looking body style in Dodge pickups for me. Combine that with 440 tuned cubic inches and it’s really happysville all over again. No graphics works well on these, they serve no purpose anyways.
Gas mileage is what it is,,, no one “accidently” buys this 440 truck and then wonders if the gas tank has a hole in it. MPG’s are not even a factor in this purchase.

The local service station owner in the small town I grew up in had a black D100 with a monster 440 and 40inch groundhog mud grips.Every winter he would build a mound of snow on the corner at the only street light in town, and when it froze you would see that monster of a Dodge perched on top decorated with Holiday Greetings to all.Always a sight to see as a young gear head and Mopar fan! Have a safe and Happy New Year!
