49K Survivor: 1968 Ford Torino GT Hardtop

The Torino was a new upscale model for Ford in 1968, and the Torino GT was the top of the Torino line. This original, unmolested GT Hardtop has only 49K original miles and was cared for by its original owner until his recent death. Find it here on eBay in Santa Monica, California with bidding at $9,351 and a Buy-It-Now price of $17,500.

This unrestored Torino is said to carry its original paint all around and have no damage in its history, and the 100+ large photos in the listing appear to support that claim. The body looks as good as any 44-year-old driver could possibly be expected to look, with no evidence of rust or damage on the undercarriage or in the trunk. The original owner serviced the car himself, and the extensive paperwork with the car shows that it received dealer attention only once since 1968, for an A/C service.

The only area on the whole car that appears to require immediate attention is the driver’s armrest, which is worn through the vinyl in places. Apart from that, there appears to be no other worn areas in the entire interior, which looks to have been very gently used on the business trips that the original owner used the car for. Even the steering wheel and other controls appear almost new and unworn.

Slight overspray on some of the under-hood sheet metal and some new hoses and other components suggest that this area was detailed, possibly by the second owner, who took possession of the car from the original owner’s estate in late 2011. While not concours, the engine bay and 302 CI V8 compliment the car’s generally superb original condition. Anyone wanting to relive the late 1960s Ford driving experience for used-Honda money could do a lot worse than this Torino GT Hardtop.

What a great looking survivor! I’d love to have this car.

Nice car. Not flashy, and Fords of that era were a step or two behind GM’s market leaders, but a sweetheart and a time warp. Just be glad it didn’t have a rust-magnet vinyl roof!

i once owned a car like this just after my brother totaled my fast back GT. It had a 390hp out of a merc cycloneGT

I think for 1968, Ford had better looking cars than Chevy. Put a LTD next to a Caprice… Ford looks so much better!

If I had $17,500.00 burning a hole in my pocket, I would “buy it now”.

I always loved this body style. This style survived two years only. Good clean American car that never commanded a whole lot of money.

Which was confusing for me. The four that I’ve owned never ever rattled, fit and finish was super duper. Started no matter the weather and temperatures outside.

I guess that just didn’t matter to people

OMG…please don’t mention honda in any form while describing this beautiful car. It s like looking at a super model then drinking pickle juice

  8. Matt
