Black Plate Belvedere: 1966 Plymouth Project

1966 Plymouth Belvedere

From David W – Found this while cruising southern California listings in search of rust free drivers. I’ve always liked the 66-67 Plymouths and Dodges and I know I’m not alone. These are popular, especially the more muscular versions. What we have here is more mundane, but it’s still a two door and has the right curb appeal. It looks a bit more crusty than many SoCal cars, but is a desirable year and body style. Needs a ton of work but at least the seller is honest and shows it in the pictures and description here on craigslist for $6,000.

318 V8
“Car needs $2500 for paint/color sand, $2500 for full upholstery, Wheels and tires $1,200. So make sure you know this before calling.” It’s going to need a bunch more than that if you want to drive it anywhere as the car does not run. We have no idea how long it’s been off the road, so assume brakes, electrical and a lot more needs doing. So if you aren’t afraid of projects, you could drop in a big block, redo the suspension and brakes, and go for a fast ride in a very cool car!

A friend of mine has this, similar burgundy colour, but in perfect shape, matching numbers Hemi / 4-speed, with dog-dish hubcaps – 100% original. Quite a sleeper!

Wow – Milner’s yellow deuce coupe in American Grafitti had a Cal plate with the letters THX (although it wasn’t a black plate)

Up here in New York it’s $6000.00 base for base coat/clearcoat, $5500.00 base for interior 2 color. Now we are at $18,000 and we are not running yet. Half to think this out.

To any followers: There is a similar ’66 Satellite in pale yellow, black interior, garage stored for about 40 years and it is on the market but not yet advertised. It has the 3.54 Sure-grip rear, Dana 60, hemi 4 speed transmission and yes, it is a genuine street hemi. It has 51k miles, very very little rust and needs a restoration. Around $50k will take it. Upper Michigan. 906 774 6599. jefff@charter.net.

What’s with the Chinese lettering on craigslist all of a sudden. I’m afraid to put anything on there to sell anymore ???

Somehow the language links got changed. Go to the home page from the ad and change it, it is the link in the very top right hand corner.

He’s at least 1/3 too high on the price. Another swing and a miss.

But after you spend $20k and get the motor rebuilt, you will still not be able to really test the motor out anywhere unless you are prepared to rebuild it from scratch again if you crash the car into a tree, or obstruction unforeseen in the road. When you bend that front clip up you will spend months attempting to find new parts because this particular model does not have reproduction fenders, or hood, like most classics do. Frankly, it’s best to stick with projects that can be completed on-time with reproduction parts. Insurance companies, and brokers, will give you a better deal on insurance if the car can be replaced easily, methinks.
