58k-Mile 1980 Chevrolet C-10 Scottsdale

Chevrolet’s squarebody trucks are very popular, and there’s a good reason for it. These trucks are not only workhorses with a reputation for reliability, but their exterior design is timeless. This 1980 Chevrolet C-10 Scottsdale is available as part of a no reserve auction here on eBay, and it seems like a clean and solid candidate for a cruiser truck.

This truck is available in Spokane, Washington with a clean title. There isn’t a lot of information in the listing about this C-10’s history, but the seller mentions that the rust-free pickup is all original and unrestored, and it’s also worth adding that it rolled off the assembly line at General Motors’ manufacturing plant in Fremont, California.

I’m a huge fan of the brown and tan two-tone paint scheme, which perfectly suits a squarebody like this. The body of this truck is in exceptional shape and I also enjoy the bed cap and its barn door rear opening. Unfortunately, this bed cap eliminates the tailgate, and there is no mention if the seller still has it. On a positive note, the bed appears to have only seen light use, as the floors are very clean and there are only a few surface patina spots.

After taking a peek under the truck, it’s easy to see that the rust-free claim is a verifiable one. There are barely any spots of surface rust, and it’s truly remarkable to see such a clean undercarriage, especially when considering how rust-prone these trucks tend to be.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find an uncomplicated but very tidy tan interior. There are no visible changes nor any serious damage present.

Under the hood, there’s a 4.1-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, which pairs to an automatic transmission to drive the rear wheels. Though this isn’t the most desirable drivetrain for one of these trucks, the combination has a paltry 58,178 miles on it, and the seller states that it runs and drives great.

At the time of publication, bidding is at $4,550. Would you place a bid on this clean squarebody?

I would bid on this. From personal experience, I had an ’81 Scottsdale LWB 2WD with this setup. Standard gear was 3.08, so had some pep. That truck had A/C, so not sure if this would have a 2.73 or 3.08 . Tilt wheel is a nice bonus…
The wheels are factory, rare, as most had the rallys, or the those “6 lug” wheelcovers.
Not sure is the trim rings belong.
I nice, honest truck that I would drive with pride. I like that six, just as much as a 454.
Aaaand remember, that engine bay will fit many, many sizes and configurations of chevrolet engines.

Nice truck that was optioned very unusually. Seller posted nearly 300 pictures but not one of the S.P.I.D.

Yes, I kept scrolling hoping to find it. I thought the tire size from the factory would be 205/75 R15, and the SPID would tell us for sure. Has 215′ on it now…and what about the tailgate? Was it traded toward the cap install, or is it in the back of someones garage?

What did the Scottsdale trim typically include? It seems to me that many if not most C/K pickups of this era came in this trim.

Scottsdale was just above Custom Deluxe but below Cheyenne and Silverado. So it had color-keyed vinyl floor (rather than black) and some nice cosmetics, but it was still a pretty basic trim. Functional options were completely separate from trim level, so you could have any trim level with any combination of power equipment (or lack thereof).

The big attraction is that it was the cheapest way to get the high-series seat with full-foam cushion and cloth or (as seen here) pleated leather-look vinyl (in place of the base trucks’ embossed-pattern vinyl, houndstooth look on a ’79 or ’80 but plaid earlier in the decade).
