67k Mile Storage Unit Find: 1984 Chevrolet Corvette

1984 was the beginning of the run for the fourth-generation Chevrolet Corvette, which was produced between 1984 and 1996.  After taking a year-long hiatus from production in 1983, the Corvette returned in C4 fashion with a completely new chassis and body style for 1984.  While it may fall short of the technological standards of today’s mid-engine Vettes, the C4 was a pretty modern marvel of engineering when it was introduced.  The Corvette even won the Motor Trend Car Of The Year award for 1984, and Chevy managed to sell over 50,000 units that year, so it’s still possible to find well-preserved examples.  If you are in the market for a nice C4, this 1984 Chevrolet Corvette may be a good car for you.  Located near Portland, Oregon, it can be seen here on Craigslist with an asking price of $6,500.  Barn Finds thanks Matt H for sending in the tip on this one.

Other than telling us that the Corvette being offered here has been well kept and runs and drives great, the seller does not provide a whole lot more detailed information.  We are told that the car has 67,000 original miles and comes with a 5.7L 350 cubic inch cross-fire fuel-injected V-8 engine, which made 205 horsepower in 1984.  The motor is mated to an automatic transmission.  No word on whether the engine or transmission has ever been rebuilt.

Judging from the photos, it really does look like this Corvette has been well cared for.  The body sports the custom two-tone paint option of light bronze and dark bronze, and the paint presents nicely from all angles.  No information is given on whether or not it has ever had a respray or if this is the original paint, and also no word on how long the car has been in storage.  From what we can see, the interior is also overall in good condition, with a little bit of wear beginning to show on the driver’s seat.  Although it was standard equipment, this Corvette comes with a one-piece removable roof panel, which replaced the T-Tops from its predecessor.

While the 1984 model may not be the most sought-after Corvette, it’s still a desirable piece of Corvette history that can be had for a fraction of the cost of some of the more in-demand and rarer models.  The Corvette being offered here seems to be a very nice C4 example and looks like a lot of car for the money.  It also comes with a clean title.  What are your thoughts on this 1984 Chevrolet Corvette?  Do you think $6,500 is in the ball park for what you are getting here?

You know, that seems to be a good price for a good looking car. My dad has a saying, and I’ve adopted it, that if you can’t afford to get a scratch on it emotionally, you can’t afford it, period.

This is the kind of car that wouldn’t leave you heartbroken if you got a scratch, its fixable, parts are available. I’d be on board with this…

I think the colors are light bronze and dark bronze…not silver/gray…with the prices of used cars going through the roof, this one might be a good deal…

I just looked around the internet at 1984 Corvette two-tone colors and I think you are correct on the colors. Thank you for the clarification on the color combination! I am going to revise the post.

Awesome looking car! Although I was way too young to drive at the time to drive a car, I remember when this gen Corvette was first introduced. At the time, I didn’t find the car very attractive, at least not compared to the C3 Corvette. But the longer it stayed on the market, the more attractive I found the car.

If only more pics were posted of the car. Twelve pics is hardly enough to show all of the car. I believe that the more of a car can be shown, the better.

Had identical Vette new. Hated the ride. They softened it up the next year.

Did you have the Z-51 suspension? This car might have the base suspension. Still pretty stiff, but the Z-51 could knock your fillings out.

Based on the images, this seems like a very fair deal. The automatic takes out all the 4+3 Doug Nash “gnashing” (Doug Gnash 4+3?) of teeth. This could be a great driver. No birdcage issues and lots of al-u-min-ium components below deck. The handling is outrageous and the “anemic” L83 engine does provide ample torque. Good luck to seller and buyer!

Nice Corvette & fairly priced for as good as it’s purported to be.I remember when these first came out I went with a good friend to looked at a privately owned used ‘ 69 Camaro . When we got to the sellers house we both saw a brand new Silver & Gray Corvette , it was the first one either of us had seen. Parked behind it on the driveway was the very nice Camaro, 396/375 4 speed, but that Corvette caught my buddy’s attention and wouldn’t let go. The owner obliged us and opened the hood to the Corvette and we were in awe at the whole thing opening and the position of the headlights, the upper control arms, just the whole shebang. Well anyway they couldn’t come to terms for the Camaro, it was in Cherry condition, low mileage ETC. but on the ride home he told me, he was gonna get a Corvette, he did about a year later , an ‘ 85 with the tuned Port L89, 4+3 trans. same paint scheme as that ‘ 84 we both lusted over, a very nice car , he loved it but had issues with the trans that were never really correctly fixed by the local dealer. A lot of people bad mouth the C4 and I can’t understand why, they were evolutionary in the Corvette scheme of things. They are nice cars ! I like ’em.

Nice car, if you are into ’84s.

The way I feel about all C4s is that they were so popular and half of them were well kept, so you can find decent ones of any model / year really close by.
