68k Mile Original Survivor: 1969 Dodge Charger

With the ongoing popularity of the Dodge Charger, finding an original survivor in good condition is the automotive equivalent to striking gold. That’s what we have with this 1969 model. Not only is it rust-free, but it also wears all of its original paint. For the serious collector, you will find the Charger located in Bellflower, California, and listed for sale here on eBay. With bidding having reached $27,100, the reserve hasn’t been met.

The Charger is finished in the aptly named Charger Red, and the owner states that all of the paint is original. It is looking faded and blotchy in a few spots, but that probably isn’t a surprise given its exposure to the Californian sun. The vinyl top isn’t original, having been replaced recently. There are also a couple of minor dings visible, the most obvious being above the rear bumper on the passenger side quarter panel. There are plenty of photos supplied of the vehicle’s underside, and it looks to be close to perfect. There are no signs of any rust issues under there, and certainly no signs of any bubbles in the panels. The exterior trim and chrome look to be in good condition, as does the grille. The original owner specified tinted glass in the Charger, and this also appears to be in good condition.

The original Red interior of the Charger is showing a bit of wear and tear, but it isn’t bad for a 50-year-old survivor. The seats themselves look good, although there is a tear in the driver’s seat. This isn’t a huge issue, as a new replacement cover is included with the car. The dash pad has a few cracks in it, as does the wheel. Some of the surfaces on the dash are also showing some wear, but overall, it is quite serviceable for the potential buyer keen on maintaining the car’s originality. Optional equipment inside the Charger includes air conditioning, a floor console, and the Music Master radio with rear speaker.

The Charger is a numbers-matching car, meaning that the 383ci V8 under the hood is not only original but is enough to make this a pretty potent car. The engine produces 330hp, which is sent to the 3.23 rear end via a 3-speed TorqueFlite transmission. The original owner also chose to equip the Charger with power steering and power brakes. The owner does state that the Dodge has only covered a genuine 68,000 miles, but doesn’t mention whether he holds any evidence to verify this. Not only was performance more than acceptable when the car was new, but the owner says that the Charger still runs and drives really well today. Included in the sale is the original Window Sticker, Dealer Contract, and the Warranty Book.

I’m pretty sure that there will be more than a few Mopar enthusiasts who would be rubbing their hands together at the sight of this Charger, and I don’t blame them one bit. Finding a solid and original survivor is always a great thing, and I would be interested to know whether we have any readers who feel the overwhelming desire to bid on this car. Go for it…you know you want to.

I follow this seller on eBay, this is the fourth 68-70 Charger he’s listed in the last three months. A quick check of his completed listings shows that he cycles through a lot of early Impala’s, Chevelle’s, Bronco’s, IROC’s and other cars which are hot in the market. They all tend to be nice basically stock cars which have survived in good condition. He’s proof that cars can be found, especially in Southern California, people just need to put in the work.

I bought an 86 Bronco from this seller earlier this year. The vehicle was not perfect but it was all original with original paint and could be driven right away.I struck a fair deal with him and would buy from him again in the future.

I usually HATE automatics, but this is just such a nice, honest, beautiful, original car that I could put that aside for once. Such a great body style. If I could afford it, and it will be worth what ever it sells for, I would just preserve it’s originality and drive it… Great car…

Beautiful Charger. Remove the vinyl roof, add a confederate flag and some Vector wheels, and this would make a great General Lee tribute!!

Do not redneck this car out. The morons who ran the Dukes of Hazzard wrecked about 300 69 Chargers. I knew in 1979, these cars would be valuable some day. I have the money to buy this car. I just may pull the trigger. Wife says the old Corvette has to go first. 68 and 69 Charger best looking muscle car ever.

      George,

You are right on about the 68/69 Charger being the best looking muscle care made. By far.

I think the world has more than enough General Lee clones out there…a car this nice should be kept stock, or close to it.

The only reason this car is as nice as it is is because nobody screwed around with it in an effort to gussie it up.
It will probably sell for what a new Charger, similarly equipped, will sell for.
It remains a mystery as to why FCA didn’t copy this body style, or at least change it when they saw how well Challengers sell.

Not a big Charger fan but this car is rare just because of the condition. Looks like a good one to me.

The only thing that would make it better is a slant 6 with three on the tree lol.

Hey Charger! Sweet looking car! Although I was too young to drive at the time, and the car itself was before I was born, I remember the 69 Charger from the TV series “The Dukes of Hazzard,” starring John Schneider and Tom Wopat. I imagine that lots of cars were used throughout the series. It was among my favourite TV shows at t he time. :)

Practically from the introduction of the 2nd gen Charger they became the villains choice of ride in cinema, starting with the black one in Bullit and for years after they went out of production. Even after the Duke boys and Daisy had their fun.
This one is sure clean… picked up on the General Lee vibe right off, hope that doesn’t happen here. The 383 makes plenty of power although it’s not quite set up like the 383 in the Roadrunners and Super Bees. At least it has a 383 and not one of the more humble offerings.

Charger is such a beautiful body style, but unlike others have stated 68/69 is not the best looking charger , it is the 70 charger with its chrome rap around front bumper, my uncle had a black on black R/T when I was a teenager and loved that front end so ,1970 wins the beauty contest (I can hear the moaning as I type).

Great car and I totally agree NOT to make it a general lee look-a-like!! It’s a survivor and should be kept the way it came from the factory!!! Tell your wife or girlfriend to cut her jean to shorts and wear them ridding up her butt and get your thrills that way instead of ruining a classic muscle car!!!

With the prices of 68-69 chargers being what they are sure glad I’m not in the market for one. Looks like a decent car.
