7.0 Liters Of Power: 1967 Buick Riviera Gran Sport

This stunning 1967 Buick Riviera Gran Sport if for sale here on eBay with 9 days remaining in the auction. The car is located in Tucson, Arizona, and is listed with a Buy It now price of $14,950. Painted in Shadow Turquoise, the car is still carrying its original paint. The Riviera looks to have been meticulously cared for over its 53-year life. The Gran Sport (GS) was an option in 1967.

This is a really good picture of how it would look driving this 57,000 mile Riviera GS. The complete interior is covered in aqua-colored materials to match the exterior. The car is loaded with a number of options including power seats, rear defrost but no air conditioning. The wood-clad console looks great between the bucket seats.

The numbers matching the original engine still resides under the hood. It is a 430 cubic inch V8 engine connected to a non-original ST 400 automatic transmission. The Gran Sport breathes through the “Star Wars” air cleaner and generated 360 gross horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque from the factory. The rear gears are a low 3.91 positraction unit.

Sales of the Buick Riviera increased to 42,799 cars in 1967. This was the first year that several US mandated safety options were added to improve occupant safety including energy-absorbing steering column, 4 way hazards flashers, locking seatbacks, and shoulder belt anchors. I think this model Riviera will always be a classic.

Absolute agreement. Compare to a rusty Mopar…

Gorgeous car. Awesome color. At first glance of the side profile I thought it was a 68-70 Charger.

On the ebay ad it states it has a reverb switch on the AM/FM radio (1 of 136). I wonder how much that cost? This is a highly optioned car with a ton of torque. What a find.

I wonder how they know there are only 136 examples with that option.

I remember seeing that option on a lot of cars back when they were newer.

Had a factory reverb in my 66. Made everything sound like the noise was coming from inside a metal garbage can!

Vacuum advance and heater are disconnected. Love the colors.

It has a non stock distributor. With 3.91 rear gears would be quite quick. Maybe a little warmed up engine thus the elimination of vacuum advance.

67’s were a great year. Hell of a deal if it is what it appears to be

    Wrong. No AC.
Heater core not connected may signal a leak.
    Nice car though. Fair price.

If the car was a non A/C car, it wold not have the vents on the dash.

It did have air from the factory, just maybe not now.

‘Those cars all had dash vents for the flow-through ventilation.
I had a ‘beater’ ’66 Riv in 1980, loved it.
One of GMs handsomest cars ever, with the gen-1 Riv, the ’63-’67 Vette, and the ’63-’64 Pontiac Grand Prix.

No Rick, they didn’t. If they had no A/C, the had floor vents. That middle vent on the dash would not be there if the car had no factory A/C.

You can look up some pictures on Google to verify this.

FWIW, the EBay description says, “Factory Non A/C car due to low gearing.”

While I still think the ’66 is the prettiest Riv ever that’s solely due to year-specific details like the stenciled hood letters and the Nailhead (such an ICONIC Buick mill) – otherwise these are the same cars. While I’m not familiar with exactly how much a GS would differ from a regular Riv such designations are always a cool factor and should add value if it can be proven.

If one examines the pics closer it does show quite an amount of overall wear though and what appears to be bubbles below the vinyl roof trim. There’s nothing really bad about this Riv; I just don’t consider it a 15K car. Absolutely love its colors. Probably a great buy if price is negotiable

Gee, stupid Toyota SUV or this? I will take this. When GM and America was great.

AC car but taken out. The car has been messed with like the ad states non-original trans. The first thing I would do is remove the hideous vinyl top. It totally ruins the lines of the car.

Nope….no A/C. Yes, it has dash vents–they all did. However, the side vents on a non-A/C are different. They just rotate in a circle, if memory serves, to be able to deflect the air. The factory A/C Riviera’s side vents tilt and rotate to a much greater degree. On a non- a/c car, the dash vents could be used to vent in fresh air. And this car does not have any of the stuff under the hood which would indicate air conditioning.
So while it is disappointing it doesn’t have a/c, it has the buckets with head rests, console and is loaded with nice options. I had a ’66 and loved it.
