705 Mile 1974 Chevrolet C-10

705 mile Chevrolet

The seller claims that the first owner purchased this truck in 1974 and only put 705 miles on it before stashing it away for 41 years! No reason is given for this odd behavior, but there is plenty of proof given to back up the claim. The first and last registration was done in 1974 and the original plates are still on the truck. The chalk marks and paper tags from the factory are still in place. The tires, hoses, and belts appear to be original too. Even the driver’s side floor mat has GM paper on it! The seller states that they have known about the truck since it was parked all those years ago. Sounds good to me, but I have a feeling that some higher quality photos would have help this sale reach its full potential. Take a look here on eBay and let us know if you think it’s legit. Thanks goes to Jim S. for the tip!

These types of finds are fun but for me, I have to drive my cars. I’m sorta like Jay Leno when it comes to that. Driving this one takes away from what it is. If I had a pile of money, and a place to keep it so it could continue to sit, I’d think about it. As it is, I’ll have to let it pass by.

Jay Leno has at least one full time mechanic he employs!

It was probably parked because the buyer couldn’t drive it. These trucks with three on the tree and no power steering were a real pain to drive. The three on the tree wasn’t bad but with no power steering it took a great deal of effort to get the truck to turn, You had your choice you could either steer it or shift it but you weren’t going to do both at the same time. My father in law bought one exactly like it and ended up selling it because it was such a pain in the butt to drive. It was all you could do to turn the damn thing. If an older person of small stature bought this truck new I can see why it was parked. The truck looks legit right down to the tires. There are probably more out there purchased by people that thought they would get used to the way this pig drove and ended up parking it.

Seems odd that it has no title. It’s an ugly truck. No desirable options for a collector, small engine, plain interior, long box. It was a work truck. Seems like a horrible waste that it wasn’t used for that purpose.

Sure looks legit, but I would be real skeptical about that salvage title & would want a believable explanation as to why.

In the Q&A section of the listing, the seller explains there is no title and ebay does not have a box for that. The seller is trying to obtain a new title as the original owner seems to have lost the original title.

Before we all discount this truck, I like to see other 1976 offerings with under 1000 miles. This truck is a time capsule. Plus one gets a completely original mint truck that you are free to do with what one’s heart desires. I’m not calling for the bastardization of this truck but one can easily perform upgrades that can be reversed such as installing power steering,, swapping in a powerful lump, etc. This truck is a tribute builder’s wet dream…

The seller probably marked salvage since the title is missing, hence no clear title.

Some states do not require a title beyond a certain age of the vehicle but almost every state has a provision for ownership transfer without a title. I recently purchased a motorcycle in Ventura. The owner who had the bike for past 10 years lost the title but had the registration. All it took was a quick run to the AAA location and we transferred ownership within minutes. Some weeks later my new title arrived in the mail. The End.

I had a 68 Ford pick up truck with 6,000 original miles. It was a truck used in the local Coca Cola factory and driven infrequently. 700 miles is a bit unbelievable but that makes it more believable.

This truck is identical to the 76 model my Mom bought after my Dad died. Her and I shopped for it for quite awhile and bought it because of low price for a full sized truck. The only other option for the same price was a Datsun. The only differences is it had chrome hub caps and it had power steering/brakes. Still a six with w/ three on the column. It was the first Chevy we ever had. Dad was a ford man. Ford and Dodge were both more expensive and Mom had no brand loyalty. I drove it through most of high school. The sticker price as equipped was 3800 dollars. This truck was probably the cheapest truck available at the time and the owner just wanted the cheapest farm truck he could get and never intended to use it on the road.

Very nice ,true that six was kinda junk, three on a tree was kinda junk, but thats not the point here .this is a time capsule. The condition is paramount, thats whats for sale . New trucks are $40 grand anymore. Someone will love this truck and rightfuly so!

This truck belongs in a museum. The way it’s equipped, it’s basically useless as a truck and it would just have value as a novelty.

This is indeed an ugly truck and Lee is right, it really should go in a museum.

However, this is your chance to time-travel back to 1974 and customize it the way you would have then. A set of period white wagon wheels with 33″ lettered BFG tires would make it look 100% better, and throwing the Clifford catalog at the engine would be more interesting than a V8 swap. Bolt a white powder-coated roll bar in the bed with some vintage KC highlighters on it, add some custom pinstriping, and you’re trucking 70’s style!

Hmm, I am starting to like this truck…..

There’s nothing wrong with a six-cylinder/three-speed Chevy drivetrain. Lots of people bought basic, stripped-down trucks in those days. A truck was a tool to do a job. It made a lot more sense than the era of $60,000 F150s and Silverados we have now.
What is a big problem is that GM trucks from 1973 to 1974 rusted like insanity. My father ran a body shop back then, and I well remember tailgates and rocker panels on these trucks rusting through and through within their first year. Starting in 1975 GM made big improvements in rustproofing, but the earlier trucks were hopeless. There’s no reason to believe that this truck will be immune, just because somebody kept it in some sort of time capsule. If this truly a 1974 (the missing title and a paint finish that looks just too fresh for 41-year-old GM lacquer makes me dubious about this truck’s provenance), I would keep my money in my pocket.

my uncle just sold a 90-something SS Chevy Pickup that only had 900 miles on it. He bought it new and parked it in the garage for most of the time he owned it. He just sold it at auction but didn’t really get crazy money for it. Someone got a super deal.

we had a shop wagon, full sized 65 chevy wagon, 3 speed on the tree, no power steering.
Used it the first summer I got my license. When you get used to it shifting and steering is no problem

Just think what this truck would have sold for at the Lambrecht Chevrolet auction in Nebraska!

I wonder. I think it’s a very well cleaned and repainted truck. There’s a paint running in one of the fender pictures.
Probably 107500 miles or more. Sorry. Hard to believe. Sorry to be such a pooper.

From what I see, this could well be original, like the vendor says. I worked for a GM dealership in the 70s and 80s, and I saw some pretty flawed paint jobs from the factory. I might add that I know of a ’75 GMC in my neighborhood that was equipped quite like this one (basic but in the case of the GMC, a 350/auto). The guy who bought it passed away within a year and the truck sat in the widow’s garage for over 30 years. She finally sold it to a lady who lived on acreage and needed something to carry the water tank. It has since been run into the ground. With deals like that I wonder what rock pile I was hiding under?

Insanity is taking over. Imagine what the $30k can buy you in the classic car market?

If you walked into a dealership today with $29,950, you could drive out with a basic modern truck. Insanity IS taking over. I believe simplicity is a virtue, and admire the simplicity of these older vehicles, but this is just plain crazy.

People can call it insanity if they like but if the buyer has the money and is happy with the truck we have no right to criticize. This price may be a little too rich for my blood but it’s obviously not too rich for someone else’s. I hope the buyer enjoys it to the max.

Quite high end price for a basic model like this one.
    Seller is surely happy!
