7,141 Original Miles: 1988 Mustang GT Convertible

While it’s not unusual to find a Mustang that’s been kept under wraps and preserved since new, cars like this 7,141 mile example still cause a bit of a jaw drop effect upon seeing how cherry it still is. The Mustang is the preferred GT model, with perhaps one of the best color combinations to come out of the late 80s: Oxford White over Scarlet Red. The GT is powered by a 5.0L V8 matched to an automatic transmission, and listed here on craigslist for $19,000.

Wow – I can’t recall the last time I saw a Fox body interior this nice. The scarlet interior presents in as-new condition, as does the red coloring inside the “Mustang GT” lettering on the side skirt. This is the kind of presentation that is only possible with a car still this new in the wrapper, and there’s effectively zero flaws to report on the inside. The automatic transmission may be a bummer to some, but it also likely means it was never hot-rodded by a young owner. The power top does still work.

White paint isn’t the easiest color to make “pop,” but this Oxford White example still finds a way to shine on an overcast day. The lenses are crystal clear and the pinstripes show no signs of wear or fading. The engine bay is impeccably detailed with the venerable 5.0L V8 under the hood. Even the hood pad remains in showroom condition, a feature that can wither under extreme temperatures regardless of how low the mileage is. The seller notes the Mustang has been garage kept since new.

You have to love details like this – you just can’t fake an original spare tire with an unused jack in the middle. The Mustang is equipped with the usual comfort and convenience features, including power door locks, cruise control,  and AM/FM cassette. The GT will come with lots of original paperwork, including the window sticker and owner’s manual. The price may seem high to some, but this is likely one of the most original Fox bodies for sale at the moment, wearing desirable colors and equipment.

Considering the spotless original condition and ultra-low miles, the price seems reasonable for an investment-grade Fox body Mustang. This generation of Mustang is increasing in value and will probably continue to do so. A few years from now $19k for a gem like this may seem like a bargain. I’d still drive it on nice days only and enjoy the top-down experience for a few years. Even if you put on 20,000 miles or so it will still be a low-mileage, desirable Mustang that will likely be worth more than you paid for it.

I’m with FordGuy on this one. I think the price is very reasonable, perhaps even a bit low. I would drive it some, maybe a few hundred miles per year going to cruises or local shows. I too expect that clean Foxes like this will continue to increase in value.

One time I put an old Snapper riding lawnmower on Craigslist at 8am and sold it by 8:45. When you’re hot, you’re hot

Wonder what the lawnmower would have gone for here? Was it numbers matching? Any patina?
