735 Miles! 2000 Dodge Ram 1500

There are some vehicles you expect to be pulled out of the garage with 735 original miles; others, like this 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, you do not. Now I’ll admit to being smitten by the Ram once I saw it dominate Mother Nature in the epic tornado chaser film Twister, but I never thought I’d love one enough to squirrel it away like some one-off showcar. Find this unusual Ram specimen here on eBay with bidding over $21K and the reserve unmet.

I’ll admit, the current bid amount surprised me not because I don’t think this Ram is deserving of that number but because I thought I was the only one weird enough to be willing to spend that kind of money on one. I do think these are another early collector car, given this redesign of the Ram was so significant and the truck remains a favorite among Mopar fans to this day. It’s also yet another example of a vehicle the next generation of collectors likely has fond memories of.

Whether that’s because you spent your summers in the back of one cutting lawns or because Bill Paxton was someone you idolized, this Ram checks all the right boxes. Towards the end of the production run, Dodge started giving the Ram a bit of a Viper treatment (my own description) with wilder paint jobs such as the blazing yellow finish on this truck. In addition, this has the desirable SLT package, Sport package, 5.9L Magnum V8, and the better looking extended cab (versus four-door crew cab.)

Now, that last part is purely subjective, but I prefer this body design because the proportions are more or less maintained while still getting a usable back seat. I’m not sure why this truck exists, as even the most seasoned collector doesn’t aspire to own a mothballed Dodge Ram. However, if someone’s been watching how mint-condition Toyota Supras and Fox Body Mustangs have been pulling good numbers at auction, perhaps it’s no surprise they saw the same potential for a mint condition Ram.

Amazing YELLOW truck! How do these get purchased and then put away at the end of the second tank of gas?

Bought a 98 in 2000, ext cab 8′ bed gas motor. Gas just hit $2 per gallon here in Illinois. First truck I ever owned. On empty, after pumping in $40 worth, I stopped and took a knee to make sure it wasn’t pouring the bottom somewhere! $60 bucks for 30 gallons was a new one for me in the year 2000! And correct, it did not last long.

Awesome truck !! I wish I had the funds to buy it now!

I am the previous/original owner of the 2000 Solar Yellow Dodge 4 x 4 Quad Cab. I ordered it new and owned it for about a month short of 20 years. This truck is perfect and it’s been stored his whole life in a heated & air-conditioned facility that maintained 68° 12 months of the year.
        “ I LOVE ❤️ YELLOW ‼️“
        Bottom line…the reason I kept it & didn’t drive it is because “ I COULD “ 😎

I miss it already! Whoever wins this bid is going to end up with an amazing truck!

David, that seems odd since the truck isn’t 20 years old yet.

If the whiskey caused me to choose that color, I wouldn’t drive it either once I woke up and realized what I had done. Ha! I don’t like yellow, but nice truck for the right guy.

shame it doesnt have the 3 spoke wheels that were optional. Does it come with a tribal tattoo?

From Illinois. No doubt it is rusting as we speak (type). These went so quickly once exposed to winter.

Not if you PROPERLY rust proofed and under coated them like we do, they last like mine did even in Chicago !! sold it not that many years ago. Again my family started Ziebart Chicago back in 1964. We are now working under our own name.

Love the color, it is one of my company’s primary covers…..really wish I could buy this one BUT with the low miles I would feel terrible driving the wheels off of it!

Tom, What is your rustproofing company name and website?

I bought a 95 Dodge Laramie Extended Cab 3 years ago, with 145000 on it. Original paint, no rust.
It was oil sprayed every year, and parked inside a barn.
If you look after them, they last.

Really? With that low of miles and the condition obviously shows it’s been garage kept you really think it’s rusting away? I’m more than a little skeptical of that comment.

Awful color but cool truck. A quick note that 2nd gens never had a crew cab option, that began on the 3rd gen Ram and was actually the same cab as the one above, just with conventionally hinged doors.

Andre,in the 60’s Dodge had a crew cab, then stopped at the next model. I believe they were mostly bought by utility’s companies and government units. I had a 73′ Chevy 3 + 3 new and just sold it 10 years ago. Nice truck, but it is 20 years old and the newer ones offer so much more in storage space and updated hardware. If I were to buy it, I would use it as a daily driver and after one year of use, it would be a 21 year old truck, worth around $5 – $6,000.00.

I have a 2000 Durango with around 60K miles. All of the plastics on the dash are crumbling.

It doesn’t matter how few miles these Dodge trucks have, that will happen here too, if it hasn’t already.

Dash damage is usually caused by sun exposure and heat so if this sat inside a garage it’s probably fine.

My ’97 Dakota has sat outside since I bought it new, and at 295,000 miles the dash (and interior) is perfect.

        The body, not so much…..

The rock-hard garbage Chrysler used in these trucks could get brittle and crack in the cold.

The color is “Solar Yellow.” It was listed for 1999 only, but a handful of 2000s were built. I bought one new in September, 1999. Regular cab, short bed, 4×4, 5.2L, 5-speed manual. The color isn’t for everyone, but I loved it. I must have – my current daily driver is a 2016 Ram Stinger in a similar shade.

Some might consider this sacrilege ( and I like this truck BTW ) but… the 4.7 liter V8 engine is way better than the 60’s era 5.9. My brother was a service writer for Dodge for quite a few years and told me that the 4.7 and the auto trans that came with it were bulletproof, and my 2001 Dakota has that driveline and it’s excellent even now.

Also my dashboard hasn’t cracked or broken but I’ve seen many which have. My truck lives outside.

Had a 2000 Durango 4.7 and a 2001 Ram 5.9. The 4.7 is a known sludge generator and mine made mayonnaise until I began using Mobil Delvac oil. Both became victims of the fracking brine PennDot used to drive roads, the Durango went in 2014, the Ram in 2016.

RS, 5.9 or 360’s were not used until the 70’s, but the early ones with the “J” heads were hot when 2.02 intake valves were added with the 1.60 exhaust already in place. These heads were also used on the late 340’s. Just A thought here…. With all these 360 crate motors that can be had with 500 + HP, why the 340’s were not crated, improve to do the same, if not better? Government guidelines are already out the window with these 360’s, so lets bring back the 340’s with their deserved glory.

I have a 2001 2500 Cummins in white. Still a gorgeous vehicle with 130k miles. With the 6.5’ bed its a VERY spirited vehicle. Just put a truck camper on it and am headed to Yellowstone. It is fully optioned with every one available save for the 6 cd changer under the seat, those gorgeous leather seats with the big rams head embroidered into the headrest… it may have been one of the best things Daimler did while they owned them.

Bought right around the time that DOT Yellow SUV’s and Trucks went cascading down in the favor chart.

Timing is everything and this dude got in at the wrong time. I’d have hid it in the garage as well

It’s not a bad yellow on the truck, but the colour-match cap is too much for my eyes. I am curious about the super low mileage, and whether the virtually non-existent break-in period will be an issue once someone starts putting miles on.

I love this truck, and at less than half the price of a new one it may be a good value considering you will get 200,000 miles out of it if you treat it right. Mine is virtually identical with 180,000 miles and still runs great ( although installing new front end components was a drag). Like Terry says, it will depreciate by half, ( I might get 3K on a good day) but that doesn’t make it a bad buy. Even love the color. They get 15 mpg. The only drawback is the poor towing prowess, plus horrible MPG when towing. Oh and expect the paint to flake off.
Or drive it sparingly and show it as a low price collectable. There are MANY Ram enthusiasts that appreciate this truck. Wish I had the coin…

I can see the appeal, costs half of what a new truck does. I’m not against tech and improvements. My buddies’ new 1/2 ton Ram will pull as much as my 12v… but it stickers at $52k. I’d rather slam my…

Well anyway, I couldn’t bring myself to slowly wreck this truck.

But I’m awfully partial to these, I still have ‘my first car’… which at the time was my dad’s 94 Ram.
And the dash is still in perfect shape.. the paint however…

I sold cars for a couple of years at FCA, a mechanic told me the old 360 (5.9) V8 holds up better than the Hemi. My ‘1998 Dodge 1500 Quad Cab 4×4 has the 360 with 94,000 original miles. So far so good!
