90 Years Old Driver: 1930 Buick Series 40 Roadster

1930 Buick Series 40 Roadster

At almost 90 years old, this 1930 Buick Series 40 Roadster with rumble seat still gets around under its own power. With a $19,500 buy-it-now price or you have the ability to make an offer, you can purchase this treasure from Culver City, California. A VIN is listed, the mileage is stated at 41,007, and the title is said to be clear. You can find more information about it here on eBay

Formerly owned by a Buick mechanic, the car has been in dry storage in California for the last 40 years. Even still, the inline 6 cylinder engine fires right up, has no leaks, and it runs, shifts smoothly, drives properly, and stops as it should, all while staying cool and having good oil pressure. A fuel gauge is said to be available, but not installed, although all other gauges are working properly.

The car is a convertible, so you can clearly see the condition of the interior. The vinyl seats do seem to glisten in the sun. According to the seller, the windshield folds up and down properly, but it does have a crack in it. The top frame is complete and intact, although there are no photos of it. All opening and closing components, like the doors and rumble seat area perform the task as expected. They say the underside of the car is rust free and looks like it has never seen any water.

Stated in the listing, the seller says that the car is about 99% complete and is a prime candidate for restoration. To help add to that possibility, the seller notes that there are quite a number of boxes containing a vast array of parts that come with the car, even though they are not in any photos. Considering many cars younger than this, that don’t run and drive, sell for about the same money, this seems incredibly worthwhile.

Just the car to have parked next to my MIL’s
’01 LeSabre Custom sedan. What checks
all the boxes for me is that it runs and you could indeed drive it whenever you liked. Just do a sympathetic restoration,
drive and enjoy. BTW, had to give up on
the Henney Kilowatt. Just couldn’t drop
the hammer without getting a loan to do
it. The loan officer at my bank said that
they don’t do car loans for a vehicle like
this. Sad too because I would really have
enjoyed it too. Thanks guys for your support and your suggestions. Would’ve
    made a great project.

Waiting for F Scott Fitzgerald to come walking around the corner. Unbelievable for a car this age.

What does 99% complete mean? Wat calculations were used to come up with that number. I learned in 7th grade that you should never make up a percentage without calculations to back them up. OK, I will climb off my high horse. Sorry!

You should know by now Bob from life’s experiences that 47.9783% of statistics are made up, inaccurate and shouldn’t be relied on!

Thanks for the laugh. I guess I was in a bad mood this morning. I will try to never let it happen again. There I go using that word never.
