99% Rust Free… VW Single Cab Bus

VWD

Here’s another cool bus sitting in Salem, Oregon and listed here on craigslist for $6,500. It is said that this 1968 VW Single Cab was originally from Nevada which could be the reason for the lack of rust which is rare for buses sitting outside.

This bus comes with an AS41 “j” motor case, some “other” motor parts and a 5 rib transmission which if you don’t have one you will need one to fill this space:

There isn’t an image of the motor case or “other” parts provided.  The dash needs wiring done.  A new wiring harness has been installed though.

The bench seat will need some work if you plan to be seated when you drive your ’68 Single Cab. This could be a fun project and the parts you need are readily available.

Cheers,
Robert

Prices for these are all over the place with many, like this one, way over priced. Here’s another rust free single cab bay window, for example, for $2500 that runs and drives. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1838331
Is this mess really worth the extra $4000? The split windows still command a premium price, but the later ones like these bay window single cabs just aren’t worth nearly as much.

the one for $2500 looks like it has the back part of a bus welded to the front of either what started out as a single cab or was converted from a bus/van. very interesting.

The $2500 one, is most certainly cut from a bus into a home brewed pick up. The $6500 one looks good, but has had the rear wheel arches cut out, a popular mod when using these off road, for large tyres. Obviously it’s been “got at” over the years, drop sides aren’t original (but look good) and the paint isn’t factory. Looks like a good basis for a resto but will need the lower sides replacing or a set of massive wheels fitted to fill the holes!
