A Bit Bruised: 1971 Chevelle Survivor

1971-chevelle

Yes, it’s a little beat up and bruised, but this Chevelle is a one family car and still runs and drives! The seller claims the small block V8 runs like a sewing machine and that it drives the same as it did when it was new. Given all the miles and body damage, I’m not sure I believe that it drives like new, but maybe it does. If they really have kept it well maintained all these years, it just might. This is one I’d like to see in person and not wet from a recent bath, but it looks cool in the photos. You can find it here on eBay in Brooklyn, New York with a current bid of $2,700 and no reserve!

Between the V8 and the floor shifted 3 speed manual, I bet this is a fun car to drive. It isn’t a highly optioned Chevelle, but that’s what you want with a sleeper! No frills, just the important bits for going fast. Despite all the damage, it sounds like this one has actually been loved. A lot of work has been done over the years and the fact that it’s still on the road suggests they really do enjoy driving it.

man, that body is rough, and those extra new parts, are some of those frame rails! rust, it is new York and the floor patch’s and rusty floor all that to me seems rust underside. But I still like it cool wheels,v-8 stick. Nice project, just not for me.

Used to be a 3- speed on the column. You can see the levers on the steering column in the engine compartment. A 4- speed could be put in this vehicle. I changed my 1971 chevelle from a 3-speed to a 4-speed in the early 1990’s. Good starter car or project for anyone!

Minimum rust on the east coast is quite different from minimum rust in the west coast!

Body is rough, but parts are easily availible and reasonable. For an east coast car it looks in reasonably good shape. Lots of butchery visible but still a cool project. Wonder what it sold for as the listing was ended. Personally, Id swap in a 5 speed out of a later camaro. The instruments and dash look my old 1972 Nova, I dont *Think* thats a stock chevelle dash?
Okay, learned something, there was 2 dashes availible and baase model had this type (same as my Nova) and the sports models had the rough gauges (Had to look it up)
