All Factory Options: 1986 Nissan 720 ST Pickup

One of the coolest survivor finds is a vehicle that retains all of its desirable factory options. While we tend to know what these vehicles look like when talking about domestic pickups like the Dodge Dakota or Ford Ranger, the import models are a bit more obscure. Regardless of make, the compact pickup truck scene featured loads of factory accessories available for making your smaller 4×4 stand out from the crowd, and Nissan offered the “ST” package to up the ante of your 720 pickup. This 1986 model remains very complete, right down to its factory roll bar and fog lamps, and is offered here on eBay with bids to $7,588 and no reserve.

The ST could be optioned on either the 2WD or 4WD models; this one is the latter. Incredibly, the ST graphics are still visible on the bed, as these often fade away over time. The 720 pickup has come into its own over the last few years as far as being a desirable truck worth owning when found in survivor-grade condition, and we’ve seen some big numbers for highly original 4×4 models. I would bet this one would do even better if it were riding on gray painted steel wheels, as many of the Japanese trucks of this era came with when not fitted with optional alloy wheels. Enthusiasts tend to view the trucks a touch more favorably with those bolted on, but these are OEM chrome wheels.

The interior is in great shape and retains all of the desirable ST upgrades, from the three-spoke steering wheel to the optional gauge cluster in the lower console. I always kicked myself for not grabbing these parts out of a junked truck I saw years ago; unfortunately, the hardware holding the steering wheel to the hub was fused on with surface rust. The interior of this truck clearly speaks to a previous owner that took great care of their off-road rig, as the light blue upholstery shows no signs of rips, dirt, or fading. The dash doesn’t appear to be cracked, either, but there is an aftermarket radio installed.

The seller reports the truck has no accidents in its history file, and that the 2.4 liter Naps-Z Z24 fuel-injected runs well. The mileage is reported as being just under 250,000, which makes both the cosmetics and the running condition even more incredible. The fact that a previous owner has done such a masterful job of preserving this truck despite racking up near 300,000 miles speaks to how possible it is to keep a vehicle in good order even as the years wear on; the fact that this is a vehicle meant for hard work and messy jobs makes it even more impressive that it has survived to such a high degree. It’s no surprise to see bidding where it is, as this has to be one of the best surviving 720 ST pickups on the market today.

Amazing condition – had to be one of the only left on this condition anymore. All the more amazing considering the mileage. I had several friends in high school in the 80s that had this gen of 4×4 King Cab in our small mountain town so I have fond memories of them.

Beautiful truck. I’m stunned at the Mileage. If this were located in the North East where I am it would have rotted into the ground during the Clinton years…

The seller also has it listed separately on eBay with a BIN price of $15,900. I’ve never seen this done before, for some reason I’ll be surprised if the auction goes to completion if bids remain low in the closing moments.

To use an early 80s Datsun phrase Simply Awesome, although that wording was probably meant for the 280 ZX turbo, not the truck but this checks all the boxes for me. Totally gives off that 80s vibe. If I had more room at the Inn, I’d be all over this.

I’m usually partial to Toyota pickups of this vintage, but this is one sharp looking pick up.

I have a 1985 Nissan 720 4×4 with 98,000 miles that’s in excellent shape. It was listed on EBay Motors but didn’t sell because a bidder with no history won it but didn’t actually buy it. I’m open to selling it. The one mentioned in the article is currently bid at $8800 with 250k miles which has me wondering what mine can actually fetch.
