All Original: 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

The trouble with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities is that they literally only happen once. If we aren’t able to grab that chance with both hands, we are likely to miss the boat. I’m not sure whether this 1966 Corvette represents such an opportunity, but it probably isn’t far off it. It’s when you tick the boxes that you begin to understand what this classic represents. It is a one-owner vehicle that is original and unrestored. It has never had any issues with rust or accident damage, and it has a genuine 54,000 miles on the clock. That is the tip of the iceberg because there is more for potential collectors to consider as we work through this car’s positive attributes. If you feel that the timing is perfect for you to add this Corvette to your garage, you will find it located in Napoleon, Ohio, and listed for sale here at Pro Team Corvette Sales. The seller has set the price at $69,995, but it appears that he might be willing to listen to offers. Barn Finder Larry D has an uncanny knack for spotting some amazing classics, so a big thank you for referring this gem to us, Larry.

It is hard to know where to start with this Mosport Green Corvette. It appears that the seller is a dealer and that they may have purchased the vehicle from its original owner. If the history they provide is accurate, this rates as a pretty impressive find. The paint that the vehicle wears is original, with nobody ever performing any restoration work during the car’s fifty-five years on the planet. There is no history of prior accident damage and no evidence of deterioration in the fiberglass that hides below that beautiful paint. It shines impressively for its age, and while it does seem to have a few flaws and marks, these are barely visible in the supplied photos. The beauty of this classic is more than skin-deep. The seller states that there is no rust in the frame, and if the birdcage is in a similar state, that makes it structurally sound. The chrome is in excellent condition for a survivor of this age, while the original Soft Ray tinted glass shows no evidence of flaws or defects.

The owner claims that this Corvette’s interior is original and unrestored. If this is accurate, that makes its condition pretty impressive. There is no evidence of wear or physical damage to the black vinyl upholstery and no signs of the typical fading that often plagues Corvette carpet. The dash looks spotless, the lenses on the gauges are crystal clear, and the remaining upholstery and plastic are in as-new condition. When you look at this interior as a total package, it makes the mileage claim seem very plausible. The original owner didn’t load this classic to the hilt with optional extras. However, the AM/FM radio and Teakwood wheel are both desirable inclusions that will help boost the potential value of this classic.

When it comes to vehicles of the caliber of our Corvette, originality is the key to the car commanding an impressive valuation. It seems that there is no questioning that aspect of this car because the seller includes documentation that confirms this as a full numbers-matching classic. The buyer will receive the 300hp version of the venerable 327ci V8, a four-speed manual transmission, a Posi rear end, and heavy-duty power brakes. That’s a tasty combination and should offer the opportunity for this classic to demolish the ¼ mile in 14.7 seconds. This is where the story of this classic takes an interesting turn. The original owner used the car regularly and managed to accumulate 54,000 miles on its odometer until 1979. At that point, he parked the car, and it never saw the road again under its stewardship. When it came into the seller’s possession, they went through the process of returning the car to a fully roadworthy state, but without jeopardizing its originality. They say that it now runs and drives well and is ready to be enjoyed by its lucky new owner. It comes with a vast collection of documentation that dates back to Day One. This includes the Owner’s Manual Packet, Protect-O-Plate, CCAS/Grenning Engine Stamp Affirmation, and the old registrations.

I initially referred to this 1966 Corvette Coupe as representing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m willing to stand by that call. You might find other one-owner cars of this age, and we do occasionally see them here at Barn Finds. We might also stumble across cars of this age that are original and unmolested, and others with similar odometer readings. The reality is that finding a fifty-five-year-old car that is a one-owner original and unmolested low mileage survivor is not something that happens often. It is the combination that makes this car so special, and it is why I believe that this Corvette will go to a new home fairly soon. Who could resist an opportunity like this?

Pro Team is owned by Terry Michaelis. Anybody could have found this carbon add all phone. This is no barn find. I know Terry. Has been in business almost 50 years starting out selling parts in Ohio. He buys from auctions like Barrett Jackson, then jacks up the price. Hey you want a nice C2, then you gotta pay the piper. This price seems low as his cars are usually priced quite high. This 66 is a once in a lifetime chance to own a real Corvette. Beautiful one year only color.

I remember seeing a Corvette similar to this one in the seventies with a ‘for sale’ sign on it. I asked the owner how much he was asking and he replied ‘I am almost embarrassed to say it, but I’d like $9,000 for it.’ I thought he was nuts asking for so much!

What are your thoughts on all that surface rust below? Looks pretty questionable to me. Having been in New York, delivered new to Rice Chevrolet of Manhasset, NY, one should have this carefully inspected IMO. Back East cars worries me.

There is something more to this story… “no rust frame, runs and drives nice.” or birdcage rusted out, motor smokes like a chimney, only has one gear.
No way Proteam lets a one owner survivor in mosport green go for this price.

You guys REALLY need to see the difference between the teakwood steering wheel and the wood grained plastic wheels, like this car is wearing!

Sorry, but IMHO somethings fishy about the low luster of that moss green paint. Looks like too much rubbing compound used on the clear coat to me.
