Amazing Survivor: 1969 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham

If you are the sort of person who likes to get around without drawing any sort of attention to yourself, then this Matador Red 1969 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham probably isn’t the car for you. However, if you want to stand out from the crowd, then it would be just about perfect. Barn Finder Patrick S referred this beautiful Pontiac to us, so thank you for that Patrick. It is located in Holly, Michigan, and is listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding is currently sitting at $12,200, but the reserve hasn’t been met.

The Pontiac looks pretty stunning, and it is all the more impressive for a car that still wears its original paint. This has a great shine to it, and there isn’t a ding or scratch to be seen anywhere. The white power top is also said to be original, and its condition is also impressive. The chrome and trim look to be in good condition, with only a few very tiny flaws with a couple of badges. Mind you, it takes some pretty careful examination to locate these. The only thing that I find disappointing is the parade boot. This doesn’t fit as well as I would expect, and I’d probably be inclined to investigate whether there was something that could be done to improve this.

The interior of the Bonneville is also said to be original, and once again, there isn’t a lot to fault here. The black leather seats look fantastic, while the carpet and dash also present nicely. There is something a bit odd about the upholstery at the top of the passenger side door trim, but it doesn’t appear to be anything major. The car also features power windows, cruise control, air conditioning, and a tilt wheel.

Gracing the engine bay of the Pontiac is a 428ci V8, pumping out 360hp. Hooked to this is a 3-speed Turbo Hydramatic transmission, while the car also features power steering and power brakes. Once again, the engine bay looks as clean and tidy as the rest of the car, and the 428 endowed the Bonneville with some fairly decent performance figures. Any time a car weighing 4,149lbs that can cover the ¼ mile in under 16 seconds has to be considered reasonably impressive. This Pontiac is more than just good looks because the owner does state that the car runs and drives really well and that it actually is a joy to drive.

This Pontiac Bonneville is not a subtle car. This is a brash and bold car with performance to match its looks. The overall original condition does indicate that the vehicle wouldn’t be put to shame if it was displayed at a car show. It is a car that is sure to attract plenty of attention wherever it goes, and its one that I wouldn’t mind having parked in my driveway.

Shazam! I would be so sexy driving this car! The upholstery on the door does look off but it matches exactly the driver side door in a picture on the listing. The parade boot needs replacing with one done by a good shop. Maybe choose black or even white instead of the non-matching red.

I don’t like red and I’m still smitten. Pontiac had it going on back then.

Ya’ll can correct me if that’s the case, but I always thought “parade boot” was a solid fiberglass boot. What this car is wearing is a standard from the factory convertible top boot. It’s made of vinyl and naturally not going to match the paint exactly. Besides, it should be black, to match the interior.
Even with all it’s flaws, it’s a beautiful car.

    Beautiful…
Except for the later styled Pontiac rims…
    Stock wheel covers preferred……

Rally II wheels were a factory option in 1969.

Those appear to have the wrong center caps (probably off a later Firebird, pressed metal instead of PMD cast/chrome) and the argent/black factory paint has been messed up with bland silver applied.

Hey Adam…no one calls them “parade boots” in this country. Simply a top boot, or well cover, and preferably the color of the gut as stated here.

This is to sweet. I agree the top cover needs changed. To Black!!! The present one gives the impression of being about four shades off from the paint.

In general the cover has always matched the rest of the interior. Leave it along and drive it!

I agree, every convertible I’ve owned or bought new, the boot always matched the interior.

Center High Mounted Stop Light? In 1969? I think not.

Sis would look great driving this car. What a sight for eyes–especially with the top down! If you were a young man back
then, this is the car you’d want.

Beautiful car! The paint job is not original and the seller does not describe the paint as original. If you blow up the trunk pic with the Challenger in the background, you can see flaws in the paint job on the LH side of the emblem.

Original paint and white top? Is the late model CHMSL attractively mounted on the rear deck original also? This car has has been attractively and tastefully redone.

I would say redone….but leave off the “tastefully” part.

Looks like PepBoys overhaul from a flipper.

The interior has had a Tijuana Taxi re-upholstery kit and the boot should be the same color as the interior.

The more you look, the more of a heap it becomes.

What a car, the likes we’ll never see again and that’s a shame. Buddy of mines dad had a ’70 2 door hardtop, 428, that car could do the “Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs”,,,I mean, that car could really roll,,,and on bias ply tires yet.

    Not a “Survivor”, IMO.

This car has been redone, and it fails in many areas, particularly paint prep. Not the creampuff which glassy-eyed bidders might be expecting. Of course it is terrific. It is a Bonneville Convertible, how could it not be? Besides, I like the hand-drawn pinstripes.

Great car. Pontiac had it going on in the Sixties. Growing up my Dad owned two. Catalina Hardtops. Something about this one strikes me as not quite there. The boot not being black and the add on Air Conditioning … things that don’t give it the over the top original way it was look and feel.

I always loved those big nosed Pontiacs. If you could get a look at mine you would know why. Beautiful car!!

Would love to buy this beauty, but black interior convertibles in Southern Florida are just too hot for me. Maybe I could change it to red or white.

It’s a ’69 Bonneville convertible, and that’s a good thing, however, be careful. The A/C is wrong, the color is wrong, the rocker covers are wrong, the boot is wrong, it has 428 emblems and a sticker on it and an aluminum intake, but most Pontiac V8s look alike. It’s not an original survivor IMHO. Be aware of what your bidding on. If you’re a serious buyer have it checked by an expert.

This looks like the ‘69 Bonneville Brougham my parents owned – one of my favorites. The interior in the pics doesn’t appear to have the upgraded Brougham details. And the rear bumper is missing the body color Endura insert or it’s possibly from a Catalina.

Looks like more evidence its been pieced together and refinished. Not an original with newer paint. Thats fine.

This thing looks like a heap, take your time and find a real original unmolested car, you would probably pay less……

TJM, you nailed it. It might be a nice Bonneville convertible. But it’s not a Brougham.

I am surprised nobody mentioned the not-so-popular Arnold Schwarzenegger movie that used the same car.

The movie is “Last Action Hero” and the reason is probably because it’s “not-so-popular!”. Personally, I thought it was a cute movie, but I mainly watch it for the car. I love the part where he’s going play chicken with the red pickup, and Everytime he steps on the gas the car rocks. Now that’s power!

Looks good to me, I’d like to have that one in the garage. It’s from my era, when men were men and cars were cars. You could tell one from another by sight and didn’t have to squint at the badges to figure out who made it.
I’d love to take that one out on an icecrèam run.

If it was a ’70 I’d probably be bidding. But the ’69 is sharp too. I would prefer a white interior and top though; black can get rather toasty! :-)

    For the Pontiac Experts-
Was there a passenger side mirror available for these cars?
I see this Bonny sports one
Are they that rare or what?
    I’m looking for a 69 Bonneville wagon
    Thanks !

Douglas, I’m not a Pontiac expert, but according to the 1969 Pontiac Accessorizer book, the right-hand outside mirror was a dealer-installed accessory available for all models. The suggested retail price was $4.85, not including installation.
