Assembly Required: 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge

1970 Pontiac GTO Judge

When the guys at Pontiac dreamed up the Judge, they envisioned a Road Runner fighter. It was going to be something basic and cheap. You know, the rubber mat and steel rims kind of thing, but with serious muscle under the hood. In the end, the Judge became more of an option package for the GTO than anything. That doesn’t mean it was a bad thing though. The Ram Air III 400 engine was standard and the visual upgrades really gave this goat some sizzle. I’d love to have a 1970 model like this all done up in Orbit Orange! Unfortunately, this one is going to need some reassembly before it can be enjoyed. The seller is optimistic though claiming that everything is there except the linkage hardware for the hood scoops. I am always leery of these kinds of projects because you won’t really know what’s missing until you start rebuilding it. That doesn’t seem to have deterred some people though as bidding seems quite active here on eBay. Thanks goes to Jim S. for the tip!

Nice rust free body , if he is honest about the only missing parts and the reserve is not outrageous for the transportation headaches and assembly it might just be a great find. I had one of these in the mid 70’s, it was a nice riding car but I prefer the 65 to 67 body styles myself.

I would like to know a little bit about the Mustang behind this car and if it’s a real Shelby.

I think the Mustang is a regular ’68 Mustang coupe with Shelbyesque striping.

One of the best cars I ever owned was a 1970 GTO. Mine was not the Judge but that 400 4 speed was pretty cool in 1974. I was eighteen then so you know how it turned out. I wish I could have it back.

This looks like a model car kit built to 1:1 scale. I hope the seller is right about all the parts being there.

This is going to take a rabid GTO fan, as it is surely going to be a chore to put back together. I have never liked basket cases.

On one episode of Legendary MotorCars, I heard Peter Klutt say there is almost always more parts missing than the owners realize when you buy a disassembled car.

I bought a 72 GTO in January that was a failed father/son project. It had set taken all apart since 1995. You might think you get all the parts, put you never do.

Number one on my bucket list. Would love to have this one in my garage. Exactly color and year I want. Ram air iv 4speed would be my choice. Wrong side of the country for me. That and out of my price range for the moment. Lol!
