Awakened Yesterday: 1957 Pontiac Star Chief

1957 Pontiac Star Chief

Yes, this is another car where the seller couldn’t even wait to take it off the trailer before taking pictures for the ad. But this one might be worth a second glance anyway! Located in Pittsburg, Texas and offered for sale here on craigslist for $3,850, this car was started yesterday for the first time in a long time after being stored for at least ten years. The seller was kind enough to show a picture, albeit quite blurry, of the car in storage as well. The Star Chief is well-thought of by collectors, and as far as I can tell can be worth substantially more than this one is being offered for. I really like the stylized stars on the side of the car and the two-tone paint on this one. With almost all the trim being in place (I can’t quite make out what the script on the right front fender is, but it isn’t on the left front) and it looking relatively solid, this seems like a bargain. If one of you snaps it up, be sure to tell us!

I actually like the 57 Pont better than the 57 Chev, this one looks like a good find, but as stated, the pics aren’t that great. , it is also one of the older 4 doors that I like just as much as the tudor , but, with all the ” extras” included in the price, begs me to question,” what’s wrong with it?” but, if somebody gets it for $4G, can’t quibble too much about the price I too would like to see it when it is finished

Seems like a pretty fair deal. I wouldn’t do much too it. Polish it and drive

my grandfather drove one of these (i believe it was the ’57, but not completely sure). When he died in ’62 my dad inherited it and drove it for awhile. Very stylish and comfortable car. His was dark purple with turquoise inserts (or whatever you call those wing-like shapes on the body).

I just wish I still had mine, stupid I traded for a jet ski. The one I had was light green with cream green top, no dents or rust original paint. Had been garrage kept. There was only one problem it’s last three digits of serial#was 666, really!!.
As for the price on this one I went to a car auction at mosconi center in San Francisco there was one exactly the same as the one I had which was parked outside. The one in the auction had been side shipped damage all down one side and they push on the block it bid to 10500.00 and did not sell as the seller wanted more. Needless to say I looked all over for the bidders as I had mine out side.

My wife and I definitely like the ’57 Poncho the best. That’s probably why she bought herself one last year. She wanted a ’57 the same year she turned 57, and she got what she wanted, and even in the right color (teal blue/white).
