Barely Driven: 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra

There’s just nine hours left in the auction for this super clean 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra, which is a virtual time capsule example with just 30,000 miles on the clock. Granted, that’s not a car that left the showroom and went into mothballs, but it is right in that sweet spot of not being afraid to use it and also not likely losing much value if you do. The Cobra is one of 1,355 with the teal exterior over Opal Gray leather. Find it here on eBay with bidding approaching $25K and the reserve unmet.

I will never get tired of seeing 90s colors like this bright teal that the Cobra wears, which reminds me of a Chevy Beretta parked in the local high school parking lot I went to. Obviously, the similarities ended there, as the Cobra represented a nice upgrade from the standard GT. This is not a completely stock example, as the seller has modified the exhaust system and added a short-throw shifter and strut bars.

The only other tweaks are subframe connectors and an aftermarket stereo. Fortunately, nothing looks too out of place despite the alterations. The interior looks fantastic, and the fact that the seats still look this good with 30,000 miles speaks to the care with which the Cobra has been handled. While you hate to see modifications of any kind, it’s clear that it wasn’t subjected to extreme negligence.

And truthfully, it’s awful hard not to throw an exhaust on a car like this, especially given the expansive aftermarket. The seller has placed a Buy-It-Now price of $28,950, which the current biding is getting close to. I suspect this one will eventually find a new owner, as passing up on a survivor-grade Cobra like this over a few grand seems silly. Would you buy a teal Cobra or hold out for a red or black one?

Oil pressure looks to be low at idle (cold too!). Should be above 1/2 way. Check out the gauge pic. Needs further investigation, IMO.

Might be only the sender. Those do fail, I had one which was sinking significantly over a two-day period on my ford van. Replaced the sender, and it was back to reading normally.

Looks like the seller is going to hold out for the last 3G’s. 12 minutes left in the auction, bidding @ $26,100, RNM

Was in California in early 1994 and rented the first of the next gen Mustang Convertibles in exactly that colour.
    So much of it’s time!
    Loved it..

The foxbody mustangs were fun to drive. To bad Ford didn’t install a 351 in the 93 cobra. But it still one of my favorite mustangs. This car is still cheaper than buying a rusted out early model mustang and trying to restore it.

My goodness, this is a boring body style. For that kind of money buy something that looks hot.

Can’t imagine driving one of these without a few mods, even something as simple as a better sounding exhaust. Like the short throw shifter too. It’s not overdone here at all, it’s been upgraded not a whacked out drag car like Gene Deputy’s strip terror.
I agree with the comment above about a 351 version. There were rumors about a possible 5.8 for a while, other rumors about a front wheel drive Mustang(yuck!). Lots of rumors but when the new ’94’s came out I began to lose interest quickly. Buggish looking and a bit slower than these fox 5.0’s.

The good thing about those bugs, they came with a 351W in 1995, had five lug axles, disc brakes all the way around with anti-lock and a tad heavier, hence a tad slower. The 1994 Cobra was underrated at 240 hp when the rwhp ran about 225-235 making the 94 Cobra have 260-265 at the flywheel. I have personally owned two foxbodies and currently own 3 SN95s. To me, the SN95s are a much better car with greater advancements. Hence bigger brakes, rotors, wheels/tires, and more..

I remember the cobra r, a handful of racers having the 351 in it, amazingly quick for then but also not easily available to joe public.
Everyone has their likes and dislikes, I’ve had three foxbody 5.0’s over the years and am just more fond of that style. The 2005 GT, well, that definitely caught my attention again but the best bang for the buck factor was long gone.
