Bargain Beater: 1931 Ford Model A

1931 Ford Model A

For a while now, I have wanted to pick up a Model A to play around with. People have modified them for decades now I figured it would be fun to try my hand at it too. Messing with an original car is not an option though, so something like this bargain beater seems like a better way to go. The seller only provides one photo in the auction listing here on eBay, but the $5,000 asking price doesn’t seem too bad for a running and driving car. The original engine is still in place so I would focus on hopping it up before attempting any sort of crazy V8 swap. In fact, I would probably look to the trial cars that our friends over in the UK build for inspiration rather than going the typical hotrod route. If you haven’t seen videos of the VSCC guys running their pre-war cars up hills and through mud, then you should!

I’m far from an expert but that does not look like a stock model A engine to me. For the cost of vintage ‘A’ performance parts you could find a V8 flatty, though I agree, it’s nicer to stay the way it is, especially if this is a vintage build rod…

Did you know that Colin Chapman built his first Lotuses to compete in trials?

For not much more you can get a lot better car. I have a 1928 Sports Coupe for sale. Would take 7500 US for it.
