Bargain Buick? 1971 Buick Skylark

The owner of this 1971 Buick Skylark bought the car for one of his children, but they have decided to go a different way in an automotive sense, so the car is going to be sold. Barn Finder local_sheriff referred the Buick to us, so thank you so much for that. It is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and has been listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding has reached $3,020, and the reserve hasn’t been met. There is also a BIN option available, and this has been set at $6,000.

The photos of the Cascade Blue Skylark leave a bit to be desired, but they do seem to show a solid and rust-free car. The lower quarter panels look solid, as does the area around the rear window. We don’t get any photos or specific information about the health of the floors or frame, but the owner does refer to the body as being clean, which infers that it is solid. Of course, if the Skylark has spent the majority of its life in its present location, then this bodes well for a rust-free status. As far as exterior trim and chrome are concerned, the majority of it looks quite good. It looks like the passenger side end of the rear bumper has been repaired at some point, and there are a couple of badges missing off the rear quarter panels, but the rest of it looks quite presentable as it is.

Opening the doors of the Buick provides something of a pleasant surprise. The owner says that a lot of work has been done to the car, and I suspect some of it might have revolved around an interior restoration. The pad is missing off the brake pedal, and the headliner is a bit crooked on the rear pillars, but that’s about all that can be criticized about its condition. I suspect that a lot of the trim, along with the carpet, is pretty new. The predominantly white upholstery with the pale blue highlights looks quite nice. The dash and pad look to be in good condition, and I have been unable to spot any aftermarket additions. It doesn’t look like the interior has been loaded up with optional extras, but air conditioning is probably a nice one to have.

Under the hood of the Skylark, you will find a 350ci V8 engine, 3-speed Hydramatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. With 230hp on tap when new, the Skylark was a competent, although not outstanding, performer. However, it looks like things are clean in the engine bay, and a fresh Edelbrock carburetor suggests that maybe a bit more horsepower has been unleashed from the engine. What the owner does say is that the Buick runs and drives well.

With a little bit of weekend tinkering, this 1971 Buick Skylark could be a really nice car. That weekend tinkering is going to involve more time than money, and I believe that we are only talking about details here, such as straightening the fit of the headliner. Otherwise, it is a car that is ready to be driven and enjoyed immediately. For someone who is searching for a “ready-to-go” classic, that would have to make it a pretty tempting proposition.

Steering wheel was aftermarket. Jes saying. Or maybe pilfered from a Gran Sport? Someone got a good starter car, reminds me of my 69 Special in the same color.

what a great deal. worth that all day, nice to see one go fair value. Just hope a newly to the muscle car world grabbed it and a flipper didn’t buy it and resist it for 16500.
