Barn Bimmer: 1976 BMW 2002

1976 BMW 2002

It may be covered in dust and rust, but this 1976 BMW 2002 was once much loved. The seller purchased the car when it had a little over 100k miles on it and then proceeded to chalk up another 150k! It then went into a wood-floored barn for another 26 years. The Maryland climate was not kind to the sheetmetal on clapped-out Bimmer though. Somehow the dash did survive unscathed though. The seller is now hopeful that they can recoup some of their initial investment and have listed it for sale here on eBay for $2,500 or best offer. Personally, if I wanted a restoration project I would keep looking, but someone on the East Coast might actually consider this a solid starting point. At the bare minimum, there are many parts here that could be used to keep another ’02 on the road!

Last year for the 2002. With the rust it’s not worth more than 700.00

Totally agree with previous posters… I had one of these…rusted from the inside out…parts and labor are very expensive. Its a shame, they are beautiful drivers ;-)

Credit the seller for being honest about the high mileage, which reduces the car’s value for its parts, unfortunately. So do the battering ram bumpers, poor interior, and rust.

I’d rather have the ’40 Ford parked behind it.

Parts car. And good for that, so I hope it’s not thrown away. But a worthy parts car it is for a BMW 02 lover.

I can speak with some authority on this car. On Friday my ’75 2002 comes out of the engine shop and should be ready for the road. It’s been a long journey (about 9 months), but I will have a thoroughly sorted car, with virtually no rust.

This car would cost probably 10-15K just to sort mechanically, let alone the rust which looks substantial. Add in paint and exterior and you’ve spent 4X what the thing would be worth. And it would take a couple of years. I might be low on this estimate.

    Yes, it’s a parts car, $500.
