Basement Bonneville Find

1965 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible

From Larry B – Check out what a friend found for me the other day. This 1965 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible is in a climate controlled basement garage and has been there since 1981. What I find so unique about this find is that this car is loaded with all kinds of optional equipment such as tri-power, bucket seats, A/C, power windows and 8 lug wheels. Although at present, the matching number engine is out of the car and needs to be rebuilt. I haven’t as yet ran the numbers to determine whether the engine is a 389 or a 421. The body seems to be straight and solid, but does have a few scratches here and there. Unfortunately, the car is somewhat buried, it was quite difficult in getting good photos. The owner hasn’t as yet priced the car, but is interested in selling it. If the price is right, I believe that I will go ahead and purchase this car. Option include 389 or 421 tri-power, auto, ps, pb, radio, A/C, tilt wheel, power windows, power top, fender skirts, dual exhaust and 8 lug wheels-76,000 original miles

Larry, I looked up a picture of what it would look like back on the road (couldn’t find a white one, but this is close) — wow! What a great find and I hope it works out for you!

Wow! Thanks for sharing this, Larry. I hope you are able to strike a deal and I hope we are able to hear about your progress. It would be great to follow a car from stored to reborn.

Hey Larry, great find! I noticed in the dash pic the rare optiinal “Speed Minder” feature, indicative of the white needle set at the 100mph position!
Data plate shows Paint code C = Cameo White. The white in the pic looks a bit brilliant to be Cameo, but might be. Camera flash can brighten and intensify color. Try http://WWW.PONTIACPOWER.NET for engine block codes. Call Jim at PHS to verify equipment.

If you can’t make a deal on the 65, I got a great 64 tripower 389 convertible I could sell you. Has the optional hardtop with it making it a 2 door hardtop.

Duffy, Where is your car and what is the optional hardtop you speak of?

UpState New York. The top is fiberglass, fits into the original top latches, hooks in the rear underneath the convertible boot cover. Two people lift it off. The vehicle was two years in the making. There’s not much that isn’t new or rebuilt. The vehicle rides and drives as new,no rattles or smoke smell.

You must buy this car. I know this, because earlier today I saw an omen in the sky….no, actually, it was on the Earhart Expressway in New Orleans this morning that I saw a jet-black ’73 Grandville convertible cutting through Saturday traffic like a hot knife. I now know that that vision was granted me so that I could say to you: Buy this car and be the coolest dude in your neighborhood.

I remember seeing a car similar to this back in high school(’66). The one I saw was a ’65 Gran Prix hardtop with the 8-lug wheels, bucket seats, and a factory 4-speed and console with the round Hurst shifter, just flat where it said Hurst . On the lower front fender near the door there was a beautiful 421 emblem just above the rocker molding. It was red with black interior. I never saw under the hood, since I didn’t know the person, couldn’t check out the amount of carbs.
When you can get to the side of the car, this might help. But being a Bonneville automatic, it might not have the eng. logo on it, since the GP was a little more flashy.

Great find. I know you’ll enjoy it.

Wow! I say “Go for it!”

Not only does it appear to be very intact, as was discussed, the boatload of ORIGINALLY-INSTALLED power options will make it far more desirable than some “clone,” should you decide to sell it (which I would not want to do).

    LOVE the white!

Now…you’ve just got to find the optional hardtop, for the finishing touch. ;-)

    Keep us posted!
