Bavarian Beater: 1969 BMW 2800CS Project

1969 Bmw 2800cs Project

A couple of readers sent in this project BMW, but we just assumed it was the 2800CS we recently featured. Turns out this car is an early 1969 BMW 2800CS. It is not in much better condition, but it does run and looks fairly complete. It is located in Sebastian, Florida and is listed for sale here on eBay with bidding starting at $1 and the reserve not met. It already sold once for $2,500, but the buyer bailed out.

1969 Bmw 2800cs Project Interior

The interior has some tears and cracks, but the most part looks complete. The blue color combo is attractive and the four speed manual is a major plus. The 2.8 liter inline six put out about 170 horsepower which when coupled with the manual was enough to make this a fun driving car. The engine does run, but the body is going to need some major prep work and a respray. Even though this car looks rough in its current state, it represents one of BMW’s most beautiful designs and deserves to be saved. What do you guys think?

I think a good close look at the inner front fenders and shock towers is required here before any money changes hands.

    Old listing, I know.
    But I agree.
You can see what’s going on when the top fender plane does not line up with the plane of the hood.
These had very thin sheet metal to start with and then half gets eaten by the rust and you have paper thin metal left to hold the structure together ?
