BF AUCTION: 1979 International Scout Terra

Bid to: $9,100View Result

UPDATE – The seller has sent us additional photos. It looks like the body was in nice shape prior to being painted, but the seller made sure it was perfectly straight before having it sprayed.

After listing and successfully selling their 1977 Ford F-150 as a Barn Finds Auction, this seller has decided to also list their 1979 Scout Terra with us, and boy is this one a beauty! They found it on a farm in Eastern Oregon in 2004 and has done a ton of work to it to make it a very nice driver. It’s currently located in The Dalles, Oregon and you can bid on it below!

This truck was purchased new by the previous owner’s family to use on the family wheat farm in Sherman County, Oregon. After 25 years on the farm, it was needing some attention. The seller replaced lots of consumables, installed a High Country lift kit, gave it a fresh coat of paint, and installed a few custom touches.

The engine is the original 304 cui V8, which was rated at 140 horsepower and can be seen running in the video above. That’s paired to the original 727 automatic and DANA 4×4 system. All of the running gear is original to the truck and the seller has provided photos of the running gear’s numbers for verification and to identify what gear ratios it’s equipped with. The front transfer case and rear-end are both tagged #46-13 / 3.54.

The interior is in as clean of shape as the exterior. It features some custom touches, such as the Grant GT steering wheel and gauges, but it presents well. The seller provided a list of what all has been replaced on the inside. Here is their list: all rubber seals for top, doors, & windows, window felt, window glides, and door sill plate was replaced. The interior is all new with soundproofing on the floor and behind seat/cab. The carpet, stainless dash, gauges, sun visors, dome light, Seat cushion, radio & speakers, Steering wheel, turn signal switch, headlight switch, high beam switch, door panels, and armrests also all-new.

While they had the interior apart, they decided to also replace the entire floor pan. They found a bit of rust in the driver’s side floor around the body bolt and they wanted to make sure the entire thing was solid and would stay that way. The bed also had the usual dents and damage from farm life, so they went ahead and replaced the bed floor to make sure it looked it’s best. To keep the outside of the truck looking clean, they also had the fuel filler moved to the inside of the bed, which is pictured above. With all that done, they had the bed professionally sprayed with Rhino Lining.

The exterior was given a few custom touches to give it the right look. Besides the 2.5″ lift, 31 x 10.50 x 15 tires (fresh ones were just recently installed), fender flares, custom bumpers, and a five-point roll bar with led lights were added. They also installed new Halogen headlights, new side markers, antenna, wipers, and new body and transmission mounts.

Once all the work was completed, it was driven back to the farm to help the previous owner celebrate her 94 birthday! After a ride in it, she was very happy to see it back on the road, and she even liked the new additions and changes. This truck is ready to hit the road or trail and is a really great looking 4×4. Lock up the manual hubs and you’ll be able to take this truck just about anywhere. The seller is sad to see it go, but they are ready to move it along. If you have any questions about the truck, please leave them in the comments. And be sure to bid!

Not a bad looking restoration!!! It looks like a truck that was in pretty good shape to start!! I think the bid will rise on this one!!

lotta bed liner sprayed around, some changes (all personal taste), ster wheel, put auto on column, not that ‘head ache’ rack or spare tire carrier, & Y a gass fill from INSIDE the bed. All changes off of oe are price reducers. Forget um unless U wanna keep it – these foks did not.
Granny already got her money I’m betting.

Nice truck , but it must be a little awkward filling the gas tank.

I saw’r that too. The regular Scout has the filler on the outside. I wonder why they changed it to the inside?

I suspect they wanted the outside to be smooth and pretty. Would not be too bad, if the bed is empty and you can open the tailgate.

Not awkward at all. Just let tail gate down. Any spillage goes on floor of bed not on the custom paint. This rig is from Oregon where pumping gas was FULL SERVICE ONLY until recently . Minimum wage employee’s don’t care if they bang the paint with the nozzle or slap the side with hoses. Unless your a purist ,it is a plus in my book. Besides, that fill spout sticking out there Two inches looks like S—.

Wow, I don’t think they were this nice coming out of Ft. Wayne. With trucks like this, IH could have gone on to big things. You’d be hard pressed to find a nicer one.

Very nice restoration. Good example of the right balance between practical but plenty good enough. They should be proud of this one. Long live IH

Nice truck for a decent price, would be very interested if I lived closer.
The Scouts are getting harder to fine and they have done a nice job on this one.
    Would make a nice driver.

I want to have a fair chance to purchase this scout. I won the open bidding and have made an offer but have no idea where I stand. What is the reserve price and can I counter offer. Please advise.
