BF Exclusive: 1954 Lincoln Capri

We recently released a teaser of reader Tim C’s barn liquidation. We don’t want to flood him with emails about random cars, plus many of them aren’t ready to be sold just yet, so we are going to be listing small batches as they become available. So please try to refrain from emailing about cars that have yet to be listed! With that out of the way, let’s get to it. The the first one up is this lovely 1954 Lincoln Capri. It needs a good cleaning and likely the typical work to make it a driver. Tim is asking $8,000 for it and it can be found just outside of Seattle, Washington. You can contact him about it via email here!

From Tim – The engine turns over OK, but I have not tried to start it. Of the 50 I have already sold, only 1 wouldn’t run. But to get them to run you gotta lube the cylinders, clean the carb and the entire fuel system including pulling and opening/cleaning the fuel tank and the fuel pump. I haven’t had time to do that on the Capri. But it has compression and turns OK, so it should be fine. It looks all original.

It actually won a car show (the plaque is on the dash) back in the day and then was parked after that. I think everything is there … all the trim etc. In one of the pictures you can see a badge missing by the passenger rear wheel but the badge is in the trunk. Hubcaps are in the trunk too. I think the odometer reads somewhere around 47,000 miles, but I need to check. It is a solid, all original survivor car that has just been hidden away since about 1975 or 1980.

This Lincoln needs some work, but it looks like a very solid car and I think after a good detailing and a little work it could be a nice driver! How cool would it be to track down the club that use to hold the Golden Spike Empire Vintage Car show and see if they still remember this Lincoln? Does anyone know anything about this show and whether it’s still around? More detailed photos of Tim’s Lincoln can be seen here.

Special thanks to Tim for picking Barn Finds as the place to list his collection! Keep an eye out as we feature more of his cars over the coming days (the next one up is a 1969 Lincoln Continental). If you happen to have a barn full of classic that you would like to list, you can find more information here!

the car show dash plaque doesn’t mean it won, just that it participated, or someone got the plaque somewhere and stuck it on there

Not sure why someone would give this comment a thumbs down. It is indeed what RicK stated.

Chances are it was an accidental click.

The winner’s certificate was in the glove box.

I’d like to see more pictures, but this car looks great. IMO 1954 to 1956 were some of the best looking Lincolnshire ever produced ( not counting the classics that is ) this one could easily be cleaned up and tuned up for spring meets. Too bad it’s again clear on the opposite coast.

All I can think of when I see this car is “Mexican Road Race” and “Ray Crawford.” The Ford-sponsored racers were impressive, fast cars indeed, and Bill Stroppe’s prep work and pit crews were really on the ball. The cars were amazingly stock, too, which leads me to think this could be a fun driver if mildly upgraded (but not updated!)

This Lincoln looks solid and worthy of a full resto. I’d leave of the numbers, sponsor decals and signage, of course; I think Ray Crawford either kept his actual Carrera Panamericana-winning racer or had a replica built. I remember seeing it on at least one occasion. I REALLY wanted to drive it!

Besides, when I was growing up I shopped at one of the Crawford family’s supermarkets!

I have a copy of “Moonshine Highway” on DVD starring Kyle Maclachlan and Randy Quaid. Kyle drove a ’54 Lincoln just like this in the movie. I really loved this movie and the car. I would love to have this Lincoln and pretend I’m Jed Muldoon running moonshine through the hills of Kentucky! Whoooeee!!!
