BF EXCLUSIVE: 1957 Chevrolet 3100

We see some great old pickups here at Barn Finds, but this one is a cool custom that needs very little to make it shine. With a 350ci small-block under the hood and some great custom touches, it is a vehicle that is guaranteed to attract plenty of attention wherever it goes. The owner has decided that the time is right to part with the Chevy, so he has chosen to list it exclusively here at Barn Finds. It is located in Burlington, Colorado, and the owner has set the sale price at $32,500. If it is a classic that grabs your interest, you will find the Contact Form at the bottom of this article.

This 3100 is not your average pickup. Your eyes aren’t deceiving you because it has received a 2″ chop. This transforms the vehicle’s appearance, making it look lower and more purposeful. The owner refers to the Black paint as being older, but it still holds an impressive shine. The red pinstripes and highlights on the tailgate help the exterior to really “pop.” There are a few custom touches, with the grille being the most obvious. This shines impressively, as does the rest of the exterior trim. The wheels are new, and they add to the aggressive appearance of the vehicle. The only issue that the owner notes is that the Pickup will require a new windshield.

There is something quite “old school” about the interior trim, and I admit that I really like it. The seats are upholstered in red velour and vinyl, while the door trims feature the same materials with diamond buttoning. The upholstery looks to be in excellent condition, while there are no issues with the carpet. The metal surfaces on the driver’s door will need to be painted to match the rest of the interior, but that would be a straightforward task for the new owner to tackle. The black-painted dash ties the interior and exterior together nicely, and I can’t spot any problems there. The dash features a good selection of gauges to allow the driver to monitor the health of everything under the hood.

When we lift the hood, what we find is a 350ci V8. This is backed by an automatic transmission, while the Pickup has also been fitted with front disc brakes. This is a pretty bulletproof combination from a mechanical perspective and should offer years of reliable motoring pleasure. It should also provide significantly more power than the 3100 would have had when new. Of course, we can never have too much power, so this combination leaves the buyer scope to squeeze more out of the 350 if they want to. The owner doesn’t indicate any problems mechanically, but he does say that the new wheels wear equally new tires.

Classic pickups have done nothing but continue to grow in popularity and value in recent years. This trend shows no signs of easing, so anyone who is seriously considering purchasing one will probably need to act fairly soon. Hesitating for too long could be a bad move because they show signs of becoming less and less affordable with each passing year. This one looks to be a real beauty, and it is one that is sure to attract plenty of admiring looks and comments wherever it goes. It is also one where most of the heavy lifting has already been done, which has to make it a very attractive proposition.

This is a great-looking trucking, but… the 2″ chop, I think, zaps its proportions in a big way.

Probably drove like a tank before with the straight 6, chopped, big motor, how about the suspension? Will it drive like a truck or a dump truck now?

IMO chopping a truck like this just hurts the proportions. Clipping it with a Camaro or something might help this by getting the stance right.

You guys are correct about the chop, doesnt look right to this ol grey hair in several ways . And the guy says it needs a windshield, go to a glass place and tell them they need one for a 2 inch chop. Was diffficult enough to get a stock one for my 57 ranchero. Good luck and stay safe.

Unfortunately, this is one of those where the ‘modifications’ made probably bring the value down not up. The interior is awful.

I think there is one too many zero’s on the asking price.

If you are a certain height, or just average even, the reach to that shift lever is going to put your back out if you have to go through the gears at every light. Even with an automatic, the ergonomics of that cabin are lacking.

I am 64 and I like the chop and the grill. My brother had a 56 Cameo and I always thought the cab was too tall. But everyone has likes and dislikes when it comes to cars and trucks. I would not pay the ask, as with something as old as I am, like me, it needs a lot of work, to bring it back to it’s glory days. lol.

The rims are gross. As is the aftermarket grill. And yes the chop is illogical.
Good luck getting your ask on this one.

    I think this truck is 1956 or 1955 ?
