BF Exclusive: 1966 Dodge Monaco Survivor

1966 Dodge Monaco

UPDATE 11/8/16 – Jon has decided to go a different route with this one, but will let us know if he changes his mind.

UPDATE 9/16/16 – Jon has decided to drop the price to $18k!

FROM Jon R 9/1/16This car was my father’s pride and joy and has been garaged since the day he bought it with 3k miles on it. It only has 23k on it now, but I no longer have any room to keep it. So I’m looking for someone who can appreciate it and drive it often it as it was meant to be. This is the two-door 440-powered “hardtop convertible” (no B pillar) model – the most desirable in the entire Monoco series. A one-of-a-kind ready to drive beauty that you may never see on the market again.

440 V8

The car was gone over from top to bottom mechanically by a trusted classic car specialist. The original 4-barrel Carter carburetor was cleaned and adjusted. New valve cover gasket’s and push rod on # 3 cylinder was replaced. New fuel pump, new brake hoses all around, complete radiator flush and the factory radiator was re-cored (to keep it all original), new fan clutch new thermostat. Anything that was even questionable, they fixed. No expense was spared. The 440 runs and sounds amazing and has tons of power!

Dash

The car is in astounding original condition. interior is stunning – no rips, tears or stains in any of the upholstery or carpet – everything works. The only thing that I see that needs to be replaced is the windshield wiper reservoir container. Power everything – including power 4-way bench seats in front. Includes the optional rear speaker with fader and air conditioning.

The paint is in excellent condition and the whitewall tires are brand new. No dents dings or scratches. Comes with the original hubcaps and original spare and all tools as well as factory Monaco shop manual. Overall excellent original condition ready to be enjoyed!

This beautiful car is located in Orlando, Florida and Jon would like to get $20k for it. You can contact him here via email if interested. Thanks for listing your Father’s car with us. We hope it finds a good home! If any of you have a survivor that you are thinking about selling, please give us a chance to help you find a good home for it!

Really a nice car! Maybe a little overpriced, but for an original survivor, not out of line.

Watched an episode of Chasing Classic Cars recently where Wayne donated one of these to be auctioned off for charity. It was an identical model, similar condition, probably not a 440. As I recall it went under 10K with a large audience bidding on it. Some of these episodes are a few years old though, not sure about this one.

Nice looking car, I love the body styles of the 60’s, but that be because I am from the 60’s, the early 60’s

I had a daily driver, then not classic, Monaco wagon that I paid all of $500 for. Metallic brown with faux wood paneling. Huge, powerful and comfortable. I unloaded it when repair on the knocking rod would have cost way more than I had in it.

The old man had a ’66 wagon years ago to pull our travel trailers. It was gold. Had a lot of problems with it, ( not necessarily the cars fault) Once coming up Monteagle hill in Tenn. pulling the trailer, half way up the trans overheated, and blew all the oil out the dip stick, and started on fire. Had it not been for the fire extinguisher in the camper, that thing would have toasted down. Let it cool down, refilled with oil, and we made it home. My brother’s BIL has a ’66 4 door he’s been trying to sell, and absolutely no interest. Not to rip on the owner here, but last I heard, he wanted $4,000, and still nothing. Granted a 2 door attracts a whole different crowd, but from watching auctions , it seems prices have cooled somewhat. Cool 1 year only car. Great styling, one of my favorite Dodges of the era.

Beautiful. My dad had a 66 Polara 4 door that color blue. He kept it on the road putting 30,000 miles on it from 1972-74

I’m a sucker for one year only models of any manufacturer.
If i didn’t already have way too many treasures in the “barn” i would certainly cherish this survivor. With a very careful engine detailing, along with a new set of period correct tires/alignment, it would round out a very pleasurable, very cool cruiser that you just don’t see much of anymore. I wouldn’t hesitate to back it into a parking space between the Roadrunners and the Super Bees at the local Cruise-Ins.
I hope the seller finds a buyer who truly appreciates this vehicle !
I do however agree with Howard A on his comment about a “cool market” right now so maybe 20k may be a tad bit unrealistic. If in my possession and i felt the need to set it free (heaven forbid), 15k would make me smile with the sincere hope that it wouldn’t be molested.

Had a 65 Monaco 2dr hardtop in the 80s. 413, console auto. Paid $500 for it. Really a nice driving car. Don’t see many Monacos for some reason.

Yep, my Dad had a 66 Monaco 4 door in that sort-of-metallic-but-not-quite blue color.

I’m a 75-year-old geezer who grew up with 50’s and 60’s Mopars. Have personally owned and appreciated a ’65 Monaco with a 413, a ’66 Monaco 500 2drHT with bucket seats and center console with the 383 Magnum, and a ’66 Monaco 500 2drHT with the 440 Magnum option. The twin snorkel air intake id’s this car to be of the 440 Magnum variety as well, check the VIN to confirm. All my cars had wicker trim inserts in the door panels and in the seat backs. Otherwise, they shared the same ride, sport design, and powerful luxury mode as this car. I recommend this car highly, especially with so much original integrity remaining. I no longer live in a place with a garage or I’d be making an offer right now. But would have to add the factory-style fender skirts and the ’66 Charger-style wheel covers that were an option for the Monaco and standard on the 500 model. Your photos have provided some fine memory lane flashes. Thanks. Hope your car finds a loving home and an owner who will keep it all stock in appearance (please, no 22″ wheels and flames on the sides!).

If anyone changes the dynamic of this car , they should be drawn and quartered. Nuff said.

65s with 413, wicker interior and buckets are my favorite. Gotta love those double D size instrument clusters!
