BF Success Story: Chris H’s Wagons

We always love to hear from our readers, especially when it’s about a success story. Well, we recently received a message from reader Chris H, who hasn’t purchased just one car he found on right here on Barn Finds, but two! First, he bought a 1974 Hornet Wagon from a few years back and then just recently purchased a 1968 Mercury Woody Wagon that we featured. He’s cleaned up both cars and they great together!

From Chris – I just want to thank you for the great postings. Due to your finds I have bought two wagons! Here are both cars and I found them thanks to Barn Finds! One in 2015, a 1974 AMC Hornet and just recently the 1968 Mercury Wagon! Great job! Keep up the super work!

As much fun as writing stories and reading all the interesting conversations that take place on the site can be, it sure feels good to hear that we helped someone find two great classic cars that they truly enjoy! We want to thank him for the update and we wish him the best of luck with both of his wagons! If you’ve purchased a find or two after spotting them on Barn Finds, we would love to hear about them.

Hey Chris, how about another wagon? I have a 1966 Chrysler Town & Country project car. 440 engine has already been rebuilt. Whole car has been sandblasted and primed … just fix some rear-wheel rust and paint! Three wagons would look good in anyone’s barn!

I used to own an AMC hornet Sportabout, during my high school years, I believe it was a ’74. That thing was unstoppable, it was never driven without the accelerator matted and it always kept going. One unique thing about the car was its AC unit. It had a knob that you could turn to control how cool you wanted it to blow. If you turned it all the way to the right you could click it into a detent that was labeled “Desert Only”. On hot days I remember it actually blowing out a cold fog. It was a northern Michigan car a thousand ++ miles from any desert. Forty years later my friends and I still laugh about the Desert Only mode on the “Sportapower”

Sweet looking cars. I’ve always liked station wagons. I’d take the AMC Hornet Sportabout, because it’s smaller than the Mercury wagon.

I’ll take the AMC with a straight-6 and a good old fashioned stick shift, please.

Brings back memories. My dad replaced his Chrysler 300 with a 74 Sportabout just like this. Went through three starter motors in a year, tranny died at 30k miles but I have lots of fond memories of family trips (and visits to the service department at Erdalac AMC in Cleveland!)

The power of the internet thus cannot be denied, for those non-believers.

And Jesse, that is probably 50k +++ on a good day! Love this site.

What do you mean Alexander? I’m not giving “good day” numbers. We have 50k active email subscribers right now and that number increases everyday. You can look up our fb numbers and the page view count was taken from last month’s analytics.

I think he meant all the plusses after 50k as a compliment, if you did not notice them. As in 60k or 70k. I can see how you would percieve that as a slight, though. Now find me a ’68 T-bird in green with the 429, fer gawds sake!
