In my opinion, Pontiac was one of the best brands under the General Motors umbrella, constantly producing unique designs that were outside the box. While it is on the more elegant side of the brand’s lineup, this 1974 Pontiac Grand Ville Convertible is available here on eBay, and it would make a great cruiser for upcoming summer days.
This vehicle is available in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania with a clean title. The seller found the vehicle in a barn in Lancaster County about a year ago (as seen in the last picture), but claims they no longer have time for it.
There is some wear on the vehicle’s exterior, but this big convertible looks good from most angles. Unfortunately, there are a few surface rust spots, but the seller claims there are no rot holes.
Of course, the condition of the convertible top is one of the most important factors on a vehicle like this. The top supposedly functions, but the seller only used it once or twice due to the worn condition of the fabric.
On a cruiser like this, it only seems fitting that the interior combines white leather seats with brown carpeting, along with various woodgrain trim elements to nicely complement both. Though the seats could use some condition, there’s no denying that this cabin looks very comfortable.
Under the hood, you’ll find a 455 cu.-in. V8 engine, which pairs to an automatic transmission to drive the rear wheels.
The vehicle’s 5-digit odometer shows 41,342 miles, and the seller mentions that the car runs and drives great.
Despite a somewhat sparse description, it seems like this Pontiac could make a solid driver with a little bit of work, and the seller is asking $8,500 or best offer. Could you see yourself sailing in this land yacht this summer, or would you rather have a smaller convertible?
Just think that not even ten years after this car was built the convertible and large luxury cars passed into histor like the American Frontier did after the the great migration west!! Seems a shame to me!! These were the iconic cruisers and there was nothing like going to the beach with your family and the top down!!!
I had a 71 Lesabre Convert 10 years ago. It was a barn find, hadn’t been on the road for 15 years. I put loud duals on it, new top (with lots of help from my dad) and just cruised it around. What a joy to drive. Had a move coming and a child so off it went. Almost had to beg some one to buy it :). That scissor top is not a lot of fun to install.
Leather or vinyl?
Pretty sure it’s vinyl interior. I have a white 75 Grandville convertible that I bought in 1989. Power bench is white vinyl, but mine is a full bench not a 60/40 like this one. It may need a top, but the scissor tops don’t need to have the hydraulics rebuilt like an earlier convertible. The fender skirts are missing, These are a great value compared to the 71-75 Eldorados. Take care of the surface rust, good cleaning and you have an inexpensive summer beach cruiser. Wish it was closer, I would consider it to replace mine. I bought mine with 82k miles, and now with 250k hard miles, all the interior plastic is disintegrating, and the wiring is brittle. Funny, the engine, brakes, transmission -all that stuff stays in repair, but the little things get you. My windshield embedded antenna hasn’t worked for years.
Ames has a lot of repro parts for these, and hydro-e-lectic in the northeast has parts for scissor top GM cars.
It’s a cool color. My uncle had a 74 Catalina with a 455 that he used to tow his airstream in the 70s. Was stolen and stripped in 1980.
Not really a proper land yacht…as 1974 was the year that the gas price asteroid hit. That being said I love this attempt at “sportiness” in an oversize personal luxury coupe. The rust makes me a tad nervous.
That’s a great comment. With the top up, you can’t really see the scale of these. When the top is down and you see six adults sitting without touching shoulders, you get an idea of how big they really were. In the right colors, these could pull off sporty looks. The mid seventies Grand Prix comes to mind. Maybe it’s the Rally II wheels. I had a black 76 GP with rally IIs and raised white letters. Looked ready to go street racing. Meanwhile under the six foot long hood was a 301. Probably made about 150 hp through the pep boys glass packs and converter “test pipe” I installed. Kids will be kids.
I actually think the rest is not too bad here. I’d be very concerned if it was at the tops of the rear fender wells a real problem for these cars. Two to 3K for a new top
It has possibilities, rust issues and all. I don’t know what all of you call a land yacht but if if it’s to long to fit in my 17 ft garage then to me it qualifies as a land yacht. Even though the top needs replaced you still have a nice cruiser going here.

’ve just received the email from Barn Finds….10 minutes ago. I clicked immediately the link for this car…as I was interested. Of course, as usual with all of the cars on Barn Finds…it was already gone. What must one do in order to get timely updates from Barn Finds? As it seems , we must receive updates every 10 seconds. In addition, I’d like to say that…I’m amazed that so many vintage cars…in which I am interested and which I can afford…are selling so rapidly…given the fact that all I hear from people is crying and moaning that they can’t even get to the end of the month…no money for food ..this and that. Something doesn’t add up.
