Big Block Project: 1975 Chevrolet Corvette 454

I have always been fond of C3’s and if I didn’t currently own a 1979 L82, I would be looking at this car. We appreciate Pat L. for bringing to our attention this 1975 Corvette equipped with a new 454 cubic inch V8 engine. The car is located in Liberty, Missouri just outside of Kansas City. It can be seen here on craigslist for an asking price of $6,900.

The original 350 cubic inch V8 engine had a cracked block that had been replaced. The seller replaced the new engine with a big block 454 cubic inch V8 and added the L88 hood. The seller states that he has owned the car since 1989 and has had it repainted and the seats have been recovered. There were over 38,000 Corvettes sold in 1975 which was the highest production total since 1969.

The car appears to need some small details handled like the Corvette badge installed on the back bumper. The car has 107,000 miles and transfers power to the rear wheels via a built Turbo 400 transmission. The two 350 V8 engines offered in 1975 were not noted for the power output so this car should be a lot of fun to drive with 100 extra cubic inches.

There were no interior pictures or engine shots included in the ad but the seller does state that he has a number of extra replacement parts including a radiator, wheels, etc. This 2 seater looks to be in nice condition with a long term owner who will someday regret selling it. It seems priced right for a 1975 Corvette with good paint and some minor needs. What do you think about this car?

No interior or engine shots? How does one expect to sell a car that way…honestly

I need that engine shot. Just suppose that they had replaced the original with a 6 cylinder.

I’m sure that the seller would provide some additional photos if requested. Some sellers will do this on purpose so that they can talk to you on the phone.

While you’re correct in saying some sellers do it on purpose I don’t believe in doing an ad that way myself. I buy and sell your basic bread and butter cars over the last 30 years, especially now when virtually everyone has internet if only on their phone, the general buying responds (as in serious buyers) if you list all the pros and cons in an honest manner and lots of pictures, it weeds out the ones that are just ‘sorta’ curious. Saves your time and theirs. A decent vehicle at a fair price sells itself without any over the phone sales pitch. Every car buyer I’ve had for years told me they liked my ads and the car was exactly how I presented it. Leave the sales pitch to car lots please sellers of ebay and Craigslist. Be informative in your ad, be honest, be fair in your price with market value and the car will sell itself after a test drive.

My 73 coupe is silver with YJ8 wheels. Looks almost the same. No 454 in 75, but still a cool ride.

    1975 454 cid? 175 bhp?

The Craigslist ad states the 454 has been punched out to 468, hot rumpity rump cam, 750 cfm carb, dual plane aluminum high rise intake manifold. so I’d venture a guess that its got a dam sight more then 175 Horsepower. Sometimes it pays to read before you respond. For $6900.00 I’d say this car is a steal.

moosie – I didn’t follow the link – it was a general statement regarding big blocks of that year. However, your charm is only exceeded by your spelling and grammar proficiency. It pays to spell check before you respond.
