Big Ol’ Wagon: 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air

w1

Yes, I love old wagons! This one has a lot of good things going for it. The seller is flipping it after purchasing it 8 months ago from the original owner in California, although it’s now in Brownwood, Texas. They have addressed some mechanical issues and now “wouldn’t be afraid of driving it anywhere.” It’s only been painted once in the original color, and wears its patina proudly. The large wagon features 9-passenger seating with a rearward facing third row and a lot of new mechanical parts. Yes, there’s some rust (check out the sign used to patch the rear floor!) but not a tremendous amount; I don’t see anything that couldn’t be patched or at least slowed from progressing fairly easily. Lots of nice pictures in the eBay listing here, including some from up on a lift, give me more confidence in this listing than in most I see on eBay. I would love to fly in with my family, buy this car and have an adventure driving it home to North Carolina!

With that rust, I’d say she lived north of Frisco rather than down Mexico way

Back in the day these did not seem that big.

Good point, Vince. These were considered ‘full size’ cars and were what most people were driving. Compared to today’s cars, they look like barges now.

….And by the interior photos just scream “new car smell”…

My grandfather had one of these while he was a finish carpenter. We would sneak out and drive the car back and forth in the drive while everyone was taking naps in the afternoon. Usually he would not turn the ignition to the lock position and the car could be started without the key. My what 6 and 8 year old boys would get into.

There was a green one of these a few years ago near me in Ohio that was a factory 409 stick shift car. Always thought it was a cool car with an odd drivetrain. Couldn’t have been many built. Guy also had a grand national and a big block nova just sitting. That’s what I could see. Guy wouldn’t let me walk around but claimed to have 2 big block no as a factory 409 Biscayne and a half dozen other cars. Makes me wonder if they are still there. May have to plan a Sunday drive real soon.

Even if this car came from San Francisco and north I find the rust to be somewhat excessive. Maybe it sat in the surf at Bolinas….no I dont think so….Its been monkeyed with and is now being sold after a short eight months. Hmmmmm
