Black Plate Driver: 1966 Ford Mustang

1966-ford-mustang

This 1966 Mustang was once a garage find, but has since been returned to active duty. The owner tried to keep as much of the car as original as possible while still replacing the items that just weren’t worth saving. It’s not perfect, but the A code 289, four-speed tranny, and deluxe Pony interior should make it an entertaining driver. You could find a more original Mustang, but if you actually want to drive it, we think this could be a good buy. Bidding starts at $5,000 here on eBay out of Fortuna, California.

Nice car. Should have gone with a 60’s series tire.

Yeah, it does look to be a nice car. Has 68 GT wheels on it – WIll go good with those 60 series tires!

A ’65-’66 coupe with a four speed is on the bucket list. The weight distribution is better than a fastback. When dropped an 1″ all around they look delightful. The rust in the doors and in the trunk is typical. Great after market parts for these, disks on all corners etc.
Get the engine right and lower compression and install a Paxton from Paradise Wheels, Boss 302 springs from Detroit Eaton with the drop already engineered into the springs………..and you go girl……………
The guy wasted money on all the sound/music stuff………I’d rather listen to road noise

A picture of the door tag would be helpful.

Sure looks clean & straight, would have like some underside shots, could do without the subwoofer stuff, tires look big as stated.

Nice looking car, owner seems to be a straight shooter. Will this car go 10k? pretty cheap fun driver on the other hand Eleanor I heard just sold for over a million at Mecum

One more thing…..always check down into the vent intake in front of the windshield. That the part with grill over it. Water can stand and rust that section out. And then….brother….you have some unpleasant problems.

Great presentation (except for no underside shots, as already noted). This could be an affordable coupe that someone could use now, and bring back to nice original condition as time & money allow. The A-code aspect, confirmed by the VIN that’s in the listing, is a big plus, but for me the exterior look is not what I prefer….that would be a black fastback, and if a Shelby Hertz clone, that would be even better. But if the reserve here is realistic, someone could end up with a nice A-code driver for the price of an ordinary used car.

might make a nice driver, fix it as you go. would need to do PI and find out more about that seal leak. but still a great find.
