Blue Plate Driver: 1975 Dodge Dart

The seller says he drives this clean Dodge Dart daily, and that it’s been a San Jose car all of its life. That California residence makes sense, given how clean the car remains and it still wears its old-school California blue plates. The hood scoop is a take-it-or-leave-it affair, but the rest of the Dart looks solid. Find it here on eBay with bidding over $1,700 and no reserve.

There’s nothing particularly incredible about this Dart other than it remains in very solid condition for a car that’s been used as a daily driver for many years. The exterior paint is faded but consistent, and the chrome bumpers still look quite good. The stickers on the left rear corner indicate long-term parking in a neighborhood district or perhaps a community college.

Based on the seller’s description (and the addition of the hood scoop), he had some intentions of converting it into a V8 car, but simply ran out of spare time to work on the Dart. For this, I am glad, as the Dart is such a nice survivor that it should really be preserved, just as is. The interior features acres of green, in mostly good condition.

The engine is a plain-jane slant six, but many enthusiasts will tell you the reliability of this engine will make you love it. The seller doesn’t confirm whether the reported mileage really is a tick over 45K, but the Dart looks nice enough that it could be genuine. This is a great foundation for a cheap project you can continue using as-is, or turn into a modified drag car with a functional hood scoop.

Those snorkels sticking out of the hood reminds me of a lady teacher I had in jr. high. Ms. Kerbotski.
Matter of fact the whole car reminds of her.
Never wanted Her and will never want that car.

Put the scoop on AFTER you put a motor that actually needs one in it. Cheap rusty Cragars would look better than those stock hubcaps if you still insist on keeping the scoop. Just don’t open the hood for anyone.

I had those caps on my Dart and after I installed a set of Magnum 500’s, it changed the whole personality of the car, of course mine is a four door, so it needed something.

All that 1975 smog crap will make you hate the slant six, I hated mine.

It is true, later slant sixes were choked to breath, ran poorly. The best ones were 1972s or earlier. Of course, that could be said for a lot of engines.

Great basis big block install. No rust is the primary driver for that.
As long as the core support isn’t tweaked, I’d buy this in a heartbeat.

The hood looks like a genuine steel Dart Sport dual snorkel with functional air inlets, not fiberglass. It could be the best part on this car! Had a 340 Sport with the functional hood, one of the nicest hoods from Mopar!

Not sure if someone swapped the grill, but that is a 73 or 74 grill, 75 and 76 were different. I had a 75 Swinger and it ran great after replacing the converter , a ton of soot came out and the slant six could finally breathe!
