Cadillac Convertible for $4,500!

1972 Cadillac Eldorado

Have you ever dreamed of owning a Cadillac convertible? Here’s a 1972 Eldorado that looks like it’s in pretty nice shape. The owner’s asking price of $4,500 seems pretty reasonable too. It’s in Ann Arbor, Michigan and listed here on craigslist. It’s been stored over 15 years and has only 61,000 miles on it. The paint, chrome and interior look nice in the pictures. I would assume it needs a top. The unknown is how much damage the rodents have done to the wiring under the hood. This would have to be a car that doesn’t need any body and needs very little mechanical work to make it worthwhile. It seems like it will appreciate in value, don’t you think?

Nice paint? Umm, NO. You can see oxidation and maybe surface rust too on the fender of this picture. And even if it was nice it could never be perfect. I owned a 1964 Fleetwood with a beautiful gloss black paint job. It’s the main reason I will NEVER own another black car! Spend 2-3 hours working to get it looking perfect, put it in the garage (with a car cover), take it out in a week or two and it looks like…$#!t! Glossy black paint shows off every speck of dust, every scratch, every scuff, every dent…and it’s only worse with big LONG painted areas! Ugh!

Probably my least favorite of the 70s Eldorados, but it’s nice enough and cheap enough to consider. Too bad it’s in Michigan and I’m in South Carolina.

Hmm a giant, front wheel drive land barge from the 70’s. It sounds like a mechanical nightmare to me.

I drove one of these for a year in college but mine was a 71. Also, my mom had a 74 which I used for one of my proms. Believe both had the 474 but maybe they went to the 500 by then. Anyways, it would spin the front wheels if you stood on it. Actually a decent car and the mechanics are straight forward, certainly not anything exotic.

Hey this computes to 50 cents per pound, way cheaper than sirloin!

The rust on the fender, the roof is shot to hell, and bird droppings on this can only mean true neglect. The wiring throughout this car will need to be replaced plus not to mention it has not been run in over 15 years and has probly would need a full rebuild. This car is not worth any more than $1100 to someone who wants to devote the time and money to restore it top to bottom best guess fully restored you will maybe squeeze $30,000 to the right buyer or keep it and the $20,000 bill that it will take to fix it up… definate do it yourself project.

I know of a red one like this in my home town. Do work on the owners vehicles. Been in a garage for almost thirty years. Was a real nice low mileage ccar when it was parked. He bought it from a freinds estate and never did anything with it. Still has original belts hoses and tires with around 10k showing. But time is taking its toll on it.
