California Farm Find: 1950 Chevrolet 3100

1950 Chevrolet 3100

This old truck may be a little rough around the edges, but with an uprated 235 inline-six under the hood and a newer 12 volt wiring harness already installed, it’s ready for farm duty. The paint is battered and bruised just as a work truck should wear, but the rust looks minimal. I’d treat the worst of it and then just focus on keeping it in service. Well, that floral bed sheet that’s covering the seat just isn’t doing it for me so I might want to give the interior a little attention too. Some black vinyl for the seat and new rubber on the floor could really clean things up inside. Other then that, this old half-ton is ready to do some chores! It’s located in Sacramento, California and is listed here on eBay for $9,500. That asking might be high, but with the option to make an offer, perhaps the owner would accept a more realistic amount. The question is – what’s it worth?

I inherited an old lawn tractor once when I bought a house. It had wiring very similar to that found under the hood of this truck. I could never get it to run quite right.

    Just sayin…

Yes the upgrade to 12 volt is a good plan but if it was done with the same quality as the wiring on the fire wall I would begin to check it very thoroughly before laying money down. It looks like he bought 25 feet of wire and needed 10 so just bunched up the extra and zip tied it. I also wonder what is hiding under the sheet of whatever in the bed?
9500 seems steep. maybe 5500 if it runs well. I wonder when the motor was installed. Looks super clean compared to the rest.

Wish I would have kept half of those that I’d buy for 2-300, get running well, and sell for 8-900. I still have a Shanafelt dual-carb manifold (for Stromberg 97s or Ford 94s; I made adapters to fit the Carters). With a split exhaust manifold it had a pretty snotty sound and pulled a bit harder. Good times.

Looks to be a painless wiring kit or similar, yes he didn’t cut excess wiring or put in to loom just wired it and zip tied it out of the way. I wired my Mach1 with a chassis painless kit that looks factory and after 5 years no issues what so ever. I would be concerned with how the original bed looks under that piece of wood and yes the floral seat cover has to go, otherwise if mechanicals check out the body is pretty decent except for the cab corners so I’d make an offer of 6K.

I like the truck, not the price.

Yeah, I personally don’t think his asking price is realistic, but like I said, he will consider offers.

Had a couple of ’47 and ’48 5 windows back in the day. This guy is out of his mind. If the engine is a fresh rebuild…………say it cost 2 K to build, then the truck is worth not a penny more. And thats being charitable/

The picture above is of a couple of restored 3100’s at a recent show/
